Buy the Sofia Dress sewing pattern from Sew Over It. Sofia is a gorgeous strappy dress with a lower back cut-out. The bodice is lined and gathered at the centre front to create a gentle sweetheart shape over a wide waistband. Version 1 closes with a beautiful bow at the back (fully bra-friendly when tied the right way). Version 2 closes with buttons at the centre back and includes two options to create a higher or lower back cut-out.

You can make Sofia with a simple gathered skirt or with three gathered tiers for more volume and for a chance to play with prints – Sofia is a great one for stripes! The skirt is elasticated at the back, and you can make the lower back more or less exposed by using a longer or shorter length of elastic.

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

Note if purchasing copy shop printing: Some of the pattern pieces have been split (to fit on the A0 sheets) and will need to be joined together.

Suggested fabrics:

Main: For a more structured look, choose light to medium weight woven fabric such as cotton poplin, cotton lawn, linen, seersucker or broderie anglaise. Due to the gathered nature of the skirt, the designer recommends avoiding anything too bulky. If you would like something softer, you can opt for a viscose or crepe.

Bodice lining: Lightweight cotton lawn or you can line in your main fabric.

Great Summer Dress

Great pattern from SOI for a summer dress. It includes a cut-out in the back, wide straps where to hide your bra, a flounced skirt and a bias-cut bodice! All is great, the only warning would be at the upper bodice edge that goes from the shoulder strap to the underarm: since it is cut on the bias, it should be reinforced with a woven strip to prevent it from loosing shape. Since it is not stated in the instructions, it happened to me and I had to solve it a posteriori with an elasticated tread. The rest was perfect!
