Buy the Strata Top sewing pattern from Sew Liberated. The Strata Top is the backbone of your handmade wardrobe and a great pattern for beginners. It was designed to be both a practice of meditation and a canvas for artistic inspiration. It is simple in its construction – only three pattern pieces – easy to fit, and effortless to wear. The uniquely curved hem adds elegance to this staple piece. Keep things uncomplicated with a version in a slub linen blend, cotton ikat, or silk noil – or use the fabric as your canvas. Try using beloved scraps to piece together your own storied fabric, experiment with natural dyes, or add some sashiko embroidery. Enjoy both the craft and the art.

Add-on to "so sad"

I've been at the sewing machine since I was a child (in 60's now). This pattern us NOT for beginners. There is little "instructions" and no diagrams at all. A paper bag with head and arm holes would almost be a better pattern than this top pattern. As I said in part 1, I tried several different "fixes" and am still frustrated with the results. No more!

Easy Strata Top

I have been on the hunt for a loose fitting cropped woven shirt pattern to match some of my high waist pants. I was drawn to the Strata Top by Sew Liberated because I really liked the hem and silhouette with my Arenite pants.

I cut a size 6 (my measurements are 35"/28"/37") and finished all of the seams with french seams (a serger is recommended) because I do not have a serger and my fabric was prone to fraying. I whipped it up in a little over an hour in a lyocell linen slub offcut. The instructions were very clear and it came together super quickly. With only 3 pattern pieces it was a simple sew.

I love the cut, with a shorter front and a longer back that is just a gently swooping silhouette. My only issue is that I had fitting issues in the arms and chest. There is pulling across my chest and neck when I move my arms back. Next time, I think I will either need to size up or make a full bust adjustment. I would also consider slightly adjusting the neckline to be a little more scooped.
