Buy the Scoop Pinafore sewing pattern from Sew Different. The Scoop Pinafore is a casual, over-the-head tunic designed to wear with a top underneath. Its statement square neckline contrasts with its scooped sides, which house large pockets (who doesn’t love a pocket!). The skirt has a slight bubble hem and sits just above the knee (for 5' 8" height). No zip needed.

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following format:

Scooped Off My Feet!

When I saw this option for the July Sew My Style Challenge from the Petite Font, I thought this pinafore had a really cute shape, but I was a little worried it would make me look too young! Being a petite school teacher, I have had my share of comments – “I thought you were one of the kids!”- oh dear! I took the plunge anyway because it also looks like a very practical piece for an elementary school teacher, and it’s like having a dress that’s also a separate! Laura from Sew Different actually says that she designed this pattern to meet the request for a dress that you could wear a top underneath. I’m just wearing my band’s t-shirt underneath here, but I plan to wear it with some pretty tops I’m making for work. And need I say- those pockets!!!!

Laura holds your hand with additional instructions for adding the side pocket panels on her webpage.  It's like easing in a sleeve, which I'm not great at.  Other than that, it is an easy sew, no closures to worry about, and when you attach the facings and turn it all inside out- WOW!- It's like sewing magic!

You can sew this up in a variety of mid to heavy weight fabrics.  I have a blue and gold brocade from a reuse store that I would love to try it out in.
