Suggested fabricsChoose a light to medium-weight, non-stretch woven fabric. A medium drapey fabric is ideal, but depending on the desired result, you can also select either a low-drape fabric or a fabric with a little more drape. A dress-weight rayon or Tencel is recommended. For the lining, choose a light and slippery satin, preferably one made of rayon, as it’s more durable than silk and more breathable than polyester.

Fabric requirementsThe fabric requirements include a 5% allowance for shrinkage. Note that the fabric consumption may be greater for fabrics with a pattern and for fabrics that need to be cut in one direction.

Lexi A-Line Dress

This A-line dress is easy to put together. It features two pleats in the front skirt, a darted bodice and set in sleeves. There's also an option to make a cropped swing blouse with wide sleeves.
I've made the dress in a double knit jersey which worked reasonably well. Named recommend a mid weight drapey fabric such as a crepe which I studiously ignored when I chose my fabric...
The dress hangs away from the body leaving no fit issues except for the light of the dress - which was longer than anticipated, both the hem length and waist seam. I ended up taking both up by about 1 1/2 inches.
Apart from that slight fit issue its a nice, simple, somewhat slouchy, dress. It would be great for beginners worried about fitting clothes close to the body!
