Buy the Skipper Top and Dress sewing pattern from Matchy Matchy Sewing Club. The Skipper has a relaxed, breezy shape. The fit is loose and boxy, but not oversized. It features a scoop neck and slightly dropped shoulders, giving a mini cap sleeve appearance. The back has a high yoke with a soft, gathered panel. View A is a slightly cropped top designed to hit between the belly button and high hip, View B is a mini dress with patch pockets, and View C is a midi dress with in-seam pockets and side slits. Both dress views create a column-like silhouette.

I absolutely adore this pattern, from how it is set out so clearly, to having fun piecing the top together. All sewists will have a great time using up scraps too - it’s a fabulous top!

Perfect for scraps and hacking

This is my third Matchy Matchy Skipper Top. I added a ruffle across the chest as well as the cap sleeves, used some embroidery thread in the bobbin and sewed the sleeve hem on the reverse to get the white stitching on the right side. It's a fabulous pattern for using up scraps and making harmonious clashes with your fabric. On top of that, the straight edges really lend themselves to embellishment (such as trim, piping, ruffles) allowing you to put your own stamp on things. I chose to add a circle of embroidery on the yoke (which I liberated from a greetings card) and attached it with a few random stitches surrounded by some french knots. This pattern offers you the space to let your imagination run riot.
