Buy the Yanaka Jacket sewing pattern from Liesl + Co. A cross between a blazer and a cardigan, this chic, unlined jacket is semifitted, slightly cropped, and includes several unique features: a cutaway silhouette, cut-on sleeves, a sleeve gusset for better movement and fit, and a gentle stand-up collar. With no set-in sleeve and no closures, this style is fun and easy to sew as well as versatile to wear. The cut-out V-notch at the back hem adds a little extra style, and the pattern is great for colour blocking. This style includes cup sizes with added bust darts for C and D cups to help you get a perfect fit.

Suggested fabrics: This pattern works best with medium- to heavyweight woven fabrics like denim, canvas, wool coating, jacquard, brocade, and bonded fabrics.

Fabric requirements: 44″ (112 cm) wide fabric: 2 3/4 - 3 1/4 yd (2.5 - 3 m) // 58″ (147 cm) wide fabric: 2 - 2 1/4 yd (1.8 - 2.1 m).

Sizing: 0 – 20 (approx. UK 8 – 20) with A/B, C and D cups. Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.

To determine cup size, subtract upper bust measurement from full bust measurement. Up to 2″ difference = A/B cup, 3″ = C cup, 4″ = D cup.

Notions: Coordinating thread; medium- to heavyweight interfacing (fusible or sew-in); approx. 15 yd of bias binding or seam binding to finish the seam allowances (optional); 1 - 1 1/2 yd of 1/4" chain to weight the hem (optional).

PDF pattern includes: Illustrated instructions (13 pages); US letter/A4 print-at-home pattern (35 pages); 36″ wide copy shop pattern (1 sheet); A0 copy shop pattern (2 sheets). This pattern is a layered PDF so you can print only the size(s) you need.

Really nice neat little jacket, very smart

This is a really nice little jacket pattern, it ends up very smart and a bit different from others. The collar stands up which give it an interesting shape, and at the back there is a little cut-out similar to the one that waistcoats often have (and in fact I do sometimes wear it with a waistcoat).

I've made it twice and am thinking of making a third one. The first time, I used a cotton twill in a purple-blue; it is a bit of a transitional piece and I can wear it in spring and autumn comfortably. The second time I made it in wool and it is both light and warm. Both times I have added a lining - the base pattern is unlined but it is easy to add it, just by cutting out the same pieces in a lighter fabric. I also added pockets; again the base pattern doesn't include them, but a small patch pocket or waistcoat welt pocket fits fine. Both of these are optional elements that I prefer to add personally, while others may be happy with just the base version with its smart shape.
