Buy the Quincy Dress sewing pattern from Jennifer Lauren Handmade. The Quincy Dress is a classic shirt-waist dress that blends fun construction techniques with an effortless silhouette. The pattern features a v-neckline, bust darts for shaping and a fully enclosed yoked back bodice. Pockets are neatly integrated into the panelled skirt, and the in-built drawstring casing creates a relaxed and casual look. The set-in sleeves are slightly longer than standard short sleeves and are more relaxed in style. Sleeve variations include a straight turn-and-hem sleeve or a notched cuff sleeve. Quincy also includes pattern pieces in A to D cups so you’ll no longer need to make additional bust adjustments for the perfect fit!

Because Quincy is the sister pattern to the Mayberry Dress, you can also mix and match all the skirt, sleeve and bodice pieces between both patterns to make your own customised dress. There are so many different dresses you could choose to make. The pink crane dress is a summery hybrid using the Quincy v-neckline with the Mayberry back bodice, skirt and short sleeves. The black floral is a cosy autumn dress pairing the Quincy front bodice and panelled skirt with the Mayberry long sleeve and back bodice. You can mix and match pattern pieces with the Farris Jumpsuit and Playsuit too!

What we think: We love the shape and the deep pockets - who doesn't need a dress with pockets?!

Suggested fabrics: The Quincy Dress is suitable for a wide range of lightweight woven fabrics with some drape. Rayon, silks, crepes and other slinky fabrics suit the Quincy Dress perfectly. You can also choose any of your favourite lightweight fabrics from cotton lawn, voile and poplin to linen and light chambray.

Fabric requirements: Extra may be required for pattern/print matching or adding length.

150 cm (60") wide fabric: Sizes 6-14, 2 m (2.19 yd) // Sizes 16-24, 2.15 m (2.35 yd).

115 cm (45") wide fabric: All sizes, 3 m (3.28 yd).

Sizing: UK 6 - 24 with A, B, C and D cups. Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.

To determine your cup size, go by the bra cup size you usually wear.

If you are unsure, wearing supportive undergarments and keeping your tape measure parallel to the floor (make sure it is not dipping at the back), measure both your full bust (the widest part of your bust, all the way around) and your under bust (the part of your rib cage just below your bust). Use the difference between these measurements to determine your approximate cup size: A cup = 10-12 cm, B cup = 12-14 cm, C cup = 14-16 cm, D cup = 16-18 cm.

Notions: Lightweight fusible interfacing, approx. 50 x 65 cm (19 3/4" x 25 5/8"); four 2 cm (3/4") wide buttons or snap buttons; approx. 170 cm (67") of cord/bias binding for drawstring; matching and/or contrast thread // Optional: 2 eyelets, max. 1 cm (5/8").

PDF pattern includes: Instructions, A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (51 pages, but you only need to print the pages for your cup size); A0 copy shop pattern (4 sheets, but you only need to print the sheets for your cup size).

A sleeveless summery Quincy

The Quincy dress is a shirt-waist style dress, with a yoke, drawstring to bring the waist in, nice pockets and interchangeable pieces with the Mayberry dress. Oh and it has cup sizes! It's basically a pretty, easy-to-wear, perfect summery dress. I modified my version slightly- made it sleeveless and added elastic at the waist instead of the tie. I really love it, particularly as the sleeveless aspect makes it perfect for summer. I actually made this last year and I have worn it lots, and it was a pleasure to discover it again this summer. The other thing I love about this dress... this gorgeous Seasalt voile with vibrant strawberries and daisies. It's such a lovely print.

For reference- I cut a 6B grading to an 8 at the waist. I scooped out the armscye to make it sleeveless, and finished them with bias binding. The instructions from Jennifer Lauren are great. I definitely recommend this dress!
