Buy the Isla Wrap Dress sewing pattern from Jennifer Lauren Handmade. The perfect mix of 1950s house dress and modern day wrap dress, Isla features waistline darts for bodice shaping, grown-on sleeves, and a wide, gently rounded neckline (buttoned at the top back neckline). The gathered skirt has in-seam pockets and falls to below the knee.
The back-wrap bodice is gently angled from the centre back neckline to the waist. Waist ties close the dress, cinching it in as much as you please, and extending the length of the ties is easy to do if you prefer your bow at the back.
The back skirt overlaps almost side seam to side seam (it’s stepped back just a smidge so you can’t see the edge of the skirt when looking from the front), meaning you have plenty of coverage, even in windy weather. Isla is cool, comfortable and layer-able for all occasions and all seasons.

Suggested fabrics: The Isla Wrap Dress is suitable for a wide range of lightweight woven fabrics with some drape. You can choose any of your favourite fabrics from cotton lawn, voile and poplin to linen, light chambray or denim, as well as double gauze, sateen and seersucker. Rayon, silks, crepes and other slinky fabrics also suit Isla perfectly. But do be mindful of the weight of the back neckline closure you use with these light fabrics, as they can sag.
Fabric requirements: Extra may be required for pattern/print matching or adding length.
115 cm (45") wide fabric: Sizes 6 - 14, 3.75 m (4.10 yd) // Sizes 16 - 24, 4.5 m (4.92 yd) // Sizes 26 - 34*, 4.75 m (5.19 yd).
150 cm (60") wide fabric: Sizes 6 - 14, 2.5 m (2.73 yd) // Sizes 16 - 24, 3.75 m (4.10 yd) // Sizes 26 - 34, 4 m (4.37 yd).
* For this fabric width, the size 34 front skirt pattern piece sits right to the edge of the selvedge. As long as your fabric has a standard selvedge of 1.5 cm (5/8") on each side, it will sit within the seam allowance and shouldn’t be visible when sewn. Keep this in mind when choosing fabric, especially if it has a large selvedge.
Sizing: UK 6 – 24 with A – D cups or UK 16 – 34 with C – F cups. Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.
Note: There is a crossover of 2 cups (C and D) and 5 sizes (16 – 24) between the Original and Curve size ranges. The Original and Curve patterns are based on two different blocks, and because of this, the shape, ease and proportions of the crossover patterns vary depending on the block used. Please check both size charts if you fall into this range.
To determine your cup size, wear supportive undergarments, then keeping your tape measure parallel to the floor (make sure it is not dipping at the back), measure both your full bust (the widest part of your bust, all the way around) and your high bust (the upper part of your bust around and under the arm pits). Use the difference between these measurements to determine your approximate cup size: A cup = 1 cm (3/8″), B cup = 3 cm (1 1/4″), C cup = 5 cm (2″), D cup = 7.5 cm (3″), E cup = 10 cm (4″), F cup = 12.5 cm (4 7/8″). Then, to determine your bodice size, find your full bust measurement (or closest to) along your corresponding cup row on the size chart.
Isla is drafted for an average height of 170 cm (5'7").
Notions: Lightweight fusible interfacing, approx. 115 x 70 cm (45 1/4" x 27 1/2"); one 1.5 cm (5/8") wide button or snap button; thread.
PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (66 pages for sizes 6-24, 76 pages for sizes 16-34); A0 copy shop pattern (3 sheets for sizes 6-24, 4 sheets for sizes 16-34). This pattern has layers so you can select your size(s) before printing.
