Buy the Georgie Pinafore sewing pattern from Jennifer Lauren Handmade. The Georgie Pinafore is a classic semi-fitted dress, updated to include modern elements. The gentle rounded V neckline leads down to an exposed centre front zip with princess seam shaping over the bust for a smooth fit. Georgie has light shaping through the waist and hips, with plenty of ease for comfort throughout the day.

Pockets are incorporated into the front princess seam panel and the finished hem falls to just above the knee. Place optional top-stitching around the neckline/zip/armscye and front/back seams to give your Georgie Pinafore a more modern, utility look. Or leave the seams clean for a nod to 60s mod.

Georgie is the perfect dress for cosy layering with long sleeves on cool days. For summer weekends, style Georgie with a t-shirt underneath or nothing at all.

Note: If exposed zips aren't your style, you can easily swap this out for your favourite type of zip, whether that's a lapped zip, centred zip or invisible zip. Ample seam allowances are included for you to use any type of zip you like with no pattern adjustments necessary!

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

– PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you’ll need to download the digital instructions, as we don’t print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?

Suggested fabrics: The Georgie Pinafore works well made up in a wide range of light- to mid-weight woven fabrics with some structure. Denim, corduroy (including lighter pinwale or baby cord), suitings, drill, wool and wool blends, mammoth flannels. For a summer Georgie, look for heavier linens, cotton ticking, light denim, poplin/broadcloth and barkcloth.

Fabric requirements: Extra may be required for pattern/print matching or adding length.

115 cm (45″) wide fabric: Sizes 6 - 14, 2 m (2.18 yd) // Sizes 16 - 24, 2.75 m (3 yd) // Sizes 26 - 34, 2.75 m (3 yd).

150 cm (60″) wide fabric: Sizes 6 - 14, 1.5 m (1.64 yd) // Sizes 16 - 24, 2 m (2.18 yd) // Sizes 26 - 34, 2.25 m (2.46 yd).

Sizing: UK 6 – 24 with A – D cups or UK 16 – 34 with C – F cups. Please check the size charts and finished garment measurements.

Note: There is a crossover of 2 cups (C and D) and 5 sizes (16 – 24) between the Original and Curve size ranges. The Original and Curve patterns are based on two different blocks, and because of this, the shape, ease and proportions of the crossover patterns vary depending on the block used. Please check both size charts if you fall into this range.

To determine your cup size, wear supportive undergarments, then keeping your tape measure parallel to the floor (make sure it is not dipping at the back), measure both your full bust (the widest part of your bust, all the way around) and your high bust (the upper part of your bust around and under the arm pits). Use the difference between these measurements to determine your approximate cup size: A cup = 1 cm (3/8″), B cup = 3 cm (1 1/4″), C cup = 5 cm (2″), D cup = 7.5 cm (3″), E cup = 10 cm (4″), F cup = 12.5 cm (4 7/8″). Then, to determine your bodice size, find your full bust measurement (or closest to) along your corresponding cup row on the size chart.

Georgie is drafted for an average height of 170 cm (5’7″).

Notions: Lightweight fusible interfacing, approx. 94 x 63 cm (37" x 24 3/4"); 51 cm (20") standard dress zip (zip can be longer or shorter, instructions are included for how to adjust the pattern to suit your zip); matching and/or contrast thread.

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (63 pages for sizes 6-24 or 89 pages for sizes 16-34, but you only need to print the pages for your cup); A0 copy shop pattern (5 sheets for sizes 6-24 or 5 sheets for sizes 16-34, but you only need to print the sheets for your cup). This pattern has layers so you can select your size(s) before printing.

Recycling Denim Jeans

I wanted to make a tunic length top to replace a ready to wear version that had become tired.

I decided to use this pattern as it came with different cup sizes so I didn’t have to do a FBA! I also thought it would work easily with recycled denim from my old jeans. In the end, I had to piece more than I planned to keep the grain lines straight and because my jeans were quite short.

The pattern was easy to follow although I took my own approach to the exposed zip, partly because I could only find an open ended one locally. The only change to the pattern was to shorten it to get it the same length as my original.   I did have to take a lot of volume once I had tried it on. Probably about 12” with most from the centre back. That might be because of of my fabric choice - denim isn’t exactly known for draping well - or because I was using the curvy block to get the right cup size, or I just prefer a more fitted style.

However, I’m really pleased with the outcome.

My favourite pinafore yet!

You can never have too many pinafore dresses, so when Jennifer Lauren released the Georgie pattern I bought it straight away! I have already made the Ivy and Pippi pinafores and love them both, so I had high hopes for the Georgie. I made my pinafore in the size 10 with a B cup and I am very happy with the fit. Construction was very simple and the instructions are excellent, however, I have given the pattern 4 stars rather than 5 because I think the way the exposed zip is inserted could be improved. Georgie is definitely my favourite Jennifer Lauren pattern to date and I have worn my pinafore several times already since finishing it last week! You can read all the details about my pinafore and see more photos on my blog post here.
