Buy the Atenas Jacket sewing pattern from Itch to Stitch. The Atenas Jacket is a classic denim jacket. The denim jacket we know and love was released by Levi Strauss in 1953, and since then it has remained relatively unchanged. You can’t get more timeless than that. It means once you make the Atenas, you'll wear it for years, and it won't go out of style.

The Atenas has all the classic details. While you are welcome to implement each and every one of them - chest pockets with flaps, single-welt pockets, flat-felled seams and topstitching - you are also welcome to simplify and omit any of them. Regardless of your preference, the pattern instructions will walk you through every step of the way!

Additional features include front double princess seams, front and back yokes, optional buttoned side tabs on the bottom band, slightly dropped shoulders, and two-piece sleeves with a functional sleeve vent and buttoned cuff. The pattern also has options for A, B, C, D and DD cups for the perfect fit.

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

- PDF (available to download immediately after purchase). What is a PDF?

- PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you'll need to download the digital instructions, as we don't print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?

Suggested fabrics:

Primary fabric: Use stable, medium-weight woven fabric with a crisp drape, such as denim, twill or broadcloth. Keep in mind that if you choose to use flat-felled seams, the fabric can get quite thick, so choose your fabric accordingly if your sewing machine cannot handle thick layers.

Lining: Use stable, non-stretch woven fabric such as quilting cotton. The lining is for the pockets.

Fabric requirements: 54" (135 cm) wide fabric: Primary fabric, 2 1/8 - 2 1/4 yd (190 - 210 cm) // Lining, 1/4 yd (20 - 30 cm).

Sizing: US 00 – 20 (approx. UK 8 – 22). Please check the designer's size chart and finished garment measurements.

A note from the designer about bust cup options: To determine your cup size, subtract the circumference of your over bust from the circumference of the fullest part of your bust. If the rounded difference is 1" (2.5 cm), use A cup; 2" (5 cm), use B cup; 3" (7.5 cm), use C cup; 4" (10 cm), use D cup; 5" (12.5 cm), use DD cup.

Notions: Medium-weight fusible woven or weft insertion interfacing; fourteen (ten if omitting side tabs) 0.67" (17 mm) jean buttons and tool to install them (usually just a hammer); topstitching thread.

PDF pattern includes: Step-by-step illustrated instructions; US letter/A4 print-at-home pattern (72 pages, but you only need to print the pages for your cup size); A0 copy shop pattern (4 sheets, but you only need to print the sheets for your cup size) // Layers: Yes // Projector file: No.

ITCH TO STITCH ATENAS JACKET

The Itch to Stitch Atenas Jacket is a total delight from start to finish! The pattern is for a classic denim jacket, with lots of little additional design details that just really make it a fun sew. The jacket has double princess seams in the front bodice, front and back yokes, slightly dropped shoulders, and buttoned cuffs with a sleeve vent. There are also functional chest pockets with flaps, single welt pockets, flat-felled seams throughout, and buttoned side tabs at the bottom band.

I made my version from a cotton/poly blend jacquard, with this gorgeous Japanese-style print of a mountain and a wave. I finished it off with some silver jeans buttons and have pretty much been living in it since — you can see more photos and details on my blog!

I have to give this pattern 5*, as the instructions were so detailed and helpful for every step. While it is certainly an in-depth project and quite advanced, I would absolutely recommend this pattern for an intermediate sewist looking to start making outerwear. One detail I loved was the inclusion of multiple bust cup options (A, B, C, D and DD), which allows a really great fit.

I am so happy The Foldline has Itch to Stitch patterns — I’m a total convert, and will definitely try more from this brand.
