Buy the Sawtell Top sewing pattern from In the Folds. The Sawtell Top is a sophisticated wardrobe staple with a range of interesting details. In a lightweight fabric, it's the perfect summer cover-up. In a heavier fabric, it can be styled with jeans or a wrap skirt and can take you through to autumn.
The Sawtell Top is hip length and features an inset placket with pleats and bust darts. It has a yoke and box pleat in the back and a wide hem. The neckline is finished with bias binding. The pattern includes four sleeve options.
View A has a three quarter length straight sleeve with a wide hem. View B has a three quarter length flared sleeve with a panel line and hem facing. View C has a three quarter length gathered sleeve with a cuff. View D has a two-part three quarter length gathered sleeve with a bias cut cuff. You can also use all four sleeves, along with the new placket piece, to make variations of the Sawtell Dress, as shown in the image gallery (dress pattern sold separately).
This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:
– PDF (available to download immediately after purchase). What is a PDF?
– PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you’ll need to download the digital instructions, as we don’t print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?
Note if purchasing copy shop printing: The pattern will show both the cutting lines (in black) and stitching lines (in pale grey).
Suggested fabrics: Light to medium weight fabrics such as linen, linen blends, cotton and lightweight denim. If you would like to use something lightweight, such as viscose/rayon or silk, consider fusing the placket pieces for additional stability. Keep in mind that the weight of the fabric will determine the amount of structure in the finished garment. Softer fabrics will give the garment drape and movement, while stiffer fabrics will create a more voluminous and structured silhouette.
Fabric requirements: You will require more fabric if lengthening or using a directional print.
