Buy the Rushcutter Dress sewing pattern from In the Folds. The Rushcutter is an oversized, knee-length, A-line dress designed for woven fabrics and available in two different styles. The Rushcutter is beautifully designed and carefully drafted to include many interesting details, making this a very enjoyable sew. The pattern includes an optional waist sash that is suitable for both styles.

View A features three-quarter length raglan sleeves, large side pockets, an invisible zip, bound neckline and wide hem facing.

View B is sleeveless with a back button closure. It features in-seam pockets and neckline and armholes finished with bias binding.

Suggested fabrics: The Rushcutter is a versatile pattern and is compatible with a range of different fabrics. Consider using light to mid-weight fabrics such as cotton shirting, poplin, sateen, linen, silk, light to mid-weight wool, chambray, light to mid-weight denim. Your fabric choice will have a big impact on the silhouette you achieve. For a more structured, boxy look, consider mid-weight denim, twill or jacquard. Or for a more relaxed, draped look, consider a viscose blend or silk crepe de chine.

Fabric requirements:

View A: 115 cm (45") wide fabric: 2.5 - 3.7 m (2.8 - 4.1 yd) // 150 cm (60") wide fabric: 2 - 2.8 m (2.2 - 3.1 yd).

View B: 115 cm (45") wide fabric: 1.9 - 3 m (2.1 - 3.3 yd) // 150 cm (60") wide fabric: 1.7 - 2 m (1.9 - 2.2 yd).

Sizing: A - J (approx. UK 6 - 28). Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: Coordinating thread // View A: 40 cm (16") invisible zip; 1 m (1 yd) of 35 mm (1 1/4") single-fold bias tape // View B: Three 10 mm (3/8") buttons; 2 m (2 1/4 yd) of 35 mm (1 1/4") single-fold bias tape; small strip of lightweight iron-on interfacing for button stand (if required).

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (51 pages); A0 copy shop pattern (3 sheets). This pattern has layers so you can print only the size(s) you need.

Wearable toile Rushcutter top

I sewed this version as a wearable toile. The initial goal was to test the pattern before making it as the top of my best friend’s wedding outfit. The making is therefore far from perfect …

As you can see, I used a fabric remnant from my Goji skirt for the small yoke on the front. The two pieces work very nicely together set without falling into a total look … not my cup of tea.

The Rushcutter

Kate: I cannot recommend this pattern highly enough - had not fitting issues at all and I think it is going to become a wardrobe staple! I made in a heavyweight crepe which has a lovely drape. The instructions are really clear and the photos and step by step means you have it made in no time. I really like the raglans sleeves and these are perfect for those who are scared of inserting a sleeve!
