The perfect coat

I feel like I've been waiting forever for the perfect coat pattern, but boy did I AM Patterns deliver with the Merlin Coat!

I love the style and how well the lining pairs with the outer fabric, they're such a good match.

If you're looking for a beginner friendly coat pattern that looks flattering on every body then this is defitnily the one.

Would it be weird to have several of the same coat in your wardrobe? I think that may end up happening.

A cosy coat for my wardrobe

This is a great pattern and the instructions are very good. I have sewn a welt pocket before but found these instructions much easier to understand. The construction of the coat is very straightforward, especially if you’ve made a coat before. I made mine from a knit coating with one way stretch and it’s nice and thick and cosy. I made a straight size 44 based off my high bust measurement to ensure a good fit at the shoulders and making sure I had enough ease in the hips. It’s a really fun make and relatively quick to sew, allowing you to take your time to achieve a high quality finish. It is fully lined and has a very easy collar construction. Nothing too fiddly.
