Suggested fabrics: The Davenport Dress is designed for light to mid weight woven fabrics. Fabrics like cotton lawn or linen will make this a great dress for spring and summer. If you want it to be a bit fancier, it can be sewn from a silk or something with a bit of drape.

Fabric requirements: 45" (114 cm) wide fabric: 3.5 - 5.66 yd (3.2 - 5.2 m) // 54"-60" (137-162 cm) wide fabric: 2.75 - 4.66 yd (2.5 - 4.3 m).

You may need to purchase extra fabric if your fabric has a heavy nap, is directional, striped, or has an obvious repeat.

Sizing: XS – 7X (approx. UK 6 – 34, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer's size chart and finished garment measurements.

The Davenport Dress is a pullover dress with a slightly loose fit that is brought in at the waist with a drawstring. This pattern was drafted using sample measurements for a height of 5'6". The straight sizes (XS-XXL) are designed off of a block with a B/C cup size. The plus sizes (1X-7X) are designed off of a block with a C/D cup size. The hem hits above the knee.

Notions: 1 yd (0.9 m) of 3/8" (1 cm) wide elastic; safety pin; matching thread.

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; US letter/A4 print-at-home pattern (38 pages for sizes XS-XXL, 52 pages for 1X-7X); A0 copy shop pattern (2 sheets for XS-XXL, 3 sheets for 1X-7X). This pattern has layers so you can print just the size(s) you need.

Davenport Dress Hack

This pattern is just lovely, it's very hackable. This is my second version, this time I wanted a long version. It's so swishy and gorgeous, it was perfect for a theatre visit.

Lots of scrumptious little details

I made this #davenportdress for the #SewRecreateTheLook challenge I co hosted with Sharlene. We challenge participants to sew a look they have admired from lots of different inspirations.

I made a mood board and then had to find the fabric and pattern to make this happen. Sneak peeks

This pattern has lots of scrumptious details but I added extra ruffles for length , shirring on the biceps and beads on the drawstring waist. I loved working this way and slowing down to recreate something beautiful. See more details here

You can see it in action here along with the other looks myself and Sharlene created. @SoSewDressmaking

This years's big dress?

I think this dress has what it takes to be this year's 'it' dress in the sewing community. I love its style and have already made 2 of them!

You can read my full review on my blog where I've written up a review of my experience with this dress and the tweaks I made  - Davenport dress Review

Beautiful dress, clever construction!

I fell in love with the Davenport dress as soon as the pattern was released and the beautiful versions I have seen popping up on Instagram bumped it straight to the top of my sewing queue! I used a William Morris inspired printed viscose from Sew Me Sunshine for my version and I think the drape of the fabric works perfectly with the pretty details and gathering. You can see lots more pictures of my dress and read my thoughts on the pattern in my latest blog post here.

Such a great pattern

Once again Friday Pattern Company has released another amazing pattern.

I've made two so far, one in medium weight linen and another in sandwashed viscose and I LOVE them.

Its a nice and easy pattern to sew and there is a great seawlong on YouTube if you het stuck on any trickier bits.

This is the perfect transitional dress for spring and summer.
