The Gemma Tie Belt is a free sewing pattern from Forget-me-not Patterns. Gemma is a simple tie belt, featuring rounded edges and a gap in the middle to showcase the bow closure at the centre front.
This belt was designed to go with the April Dress, but is such a simple, versatile pattern that the designer decided to also make it available for free! Gemma is an easy and quick sew. Make Gemma in the same fashion fabric as your garment, or use a contrast colour. You can also experiment with extra techniques if you are feeling adventurous, such as adding piping or gathers, or playing around with grainlines to achieve different effects.
This sewing pattern is available in the following format:
– PDF (available to download immediately after purchase). What is a PDF?
Suggested fabrics: Gemma is designed for light to medium weight non-stretch wovens. Choose fabrics with a stable weave. Cotton chambray, cotton voile, linen, and stable viscose/rayon are all ideal.
Fabric requirements: The belt can be cut on the straight grain or crossgrain. You may wish to cut on the crossgrain to save fabric or if you are using a directional print. If you do change the grainline of the belt, keep the interfacing cut on the original grainline; this will keep the belt from stretching out of shape.
Cut on straight grain: 114 cm (44") wide fabric: 0.9 - 1.2 m (1 - 1.3 yd) // 140 cm (55") wide fabric: 0.9 - 1.2 m (1 - 1.3 yd).
Cut on crossgrain: 114 cm (44") wide fabric: 0.4 m (0.5 yd) // 140 cm (55") wide fabric: 0.4 m (0.5 yd).
Sizing: 28 – 52 (approx. UK 4 – 28). Please check the size chart.
Notions: Lightweight woven fusible interfacing; thread.
PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (4 pages). This pattern is layered so you can print just the size(s) you need. Does not include an A0 copy shop file.
