Buy the Bernie Trousers sewing pattern from Fibre Mood. Particularly pretty ankle-length trousers. The front pleats are secured at the hem and the waistband, and belt loops provide extra interest. The welt pockets are also chic. Or if you want to make these trousers a whole lot easier, simply omit the pockets.

Suggested fabrics: You have a wide range options, from cottons to wools. Bernie works best with stiffer material, so think about using denim, linen, fine corduroy, gabardine, leather...and avoid drapey fabrics.

Fabric requirements: 110 cm wide fabric: 210 - 285 cm // 140 cm wide fabric: 170 - 235 cm.

Sizing: EU 32 – 60 / US 0 – 28 / UK 4 – 32 (approx. UK 6 – 28/30, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and pattern measurements.

Notions: Thread; iron-on interfacing, max. 140 cm; 1 button, 1.8 cm diameter; closed end zip, 15 cm for sizes 4-16 or 18 cm for sizes 18-32; lining fabric, max. 35 cm.

PDF pattern includes: Step-by-step illustrated instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (45 pages); A0 copy shop pattern (2 sheets) // Layers: Yes // Projector file: Yes.

Note: Seam allowances are included in this pattern. The copy shop file we print for you shows the cutting lines only (not cutting lines and stitching lines) to make it easier to know what size to cut out.

Love these pants.

I made these out of a light to mid-weight cupro modal, so they don't totally hold the structure of the pleat but I really love them. Fit is great, pattern was clear. One of the few patterns I have that I'm excited to make more. Definitely looking forward to making them with a thicker fabric.

My only complaint is that the pockets are just a tad shallow, and I love a butt pocket. Will experiment how to add some.

Apologies for the bathroom photo. Was the best I could get!
