Lining: Lightweight slippery fabrics such as satin, silk habotai, cupro, and acetate.

Interfacing: You can choose between woven weft, woven lightweight, or knit interfacing for heavyweight wools.

This pattern is drafted to fit a B cup size and has two height options:

Height Group 1: 160 cm (5’3″)
Height Group 2: 170 cm (5’7″)

Select the closest height to your body. If you are in the middle, choose the taller. Both groups have the same width around the body – the only difference is in the length. If you are outside these height groups, you may need to alter the pattern length at the lengthen/shorten lines marked on the pattern pieces.

Notions: 2 buttons of 2 cm (3/4”) for shoulder tabs; 6 buttons of 2.5 cm (1”) for front; 1 internal button of 2.5 cm (1”) (it can be the same as the front buttons); stay tape (bias and edge tape); 2 spools of matching thread; basting thread (no special thread required).

PDF pattern includes: Step-by-step instructions; A4 print-at-home patterns for coat (46 pages for Group 1, 48 pages for Group 2) and lining (31 pages for Group 1, 31 pages for Group 2); US letter print-at-home patterns for coat (50 pages for Group 1, 55 pages for Group 2) and lining (34 pages for Group 1, 35 pages for Group 2); plotter patterns for coat (1 sheet for Group 1, 1 sheet for Group 2) and lining (1 sheet for Group 1, 1 sheet for Group 2); A0 copy shop patterns for coat (3 sheets for Group 1, 3 sheets for Group 2) and lining (2 sheets for Group 1, 2 sheets for Group 2). Fantastic introduction to Coat Sewing

The Traveller Coat is a great introduction to coat sewing. It comes with a 57 page instruction booklet full of photos. It is a sewing marathon but if you are slow and steady and take it step by step it is certainly within reach for an intermediate sewist.

My measurements put me between 3 sizes (10 - 14). I wanted a slightly more fitted look so I went with the 10 and graded to the 14 at the waist. The pattern is drafted for a B cup which suited me well.

The fabric is a wool poly blend and the lining is a plain black habotai lining. I thought the main fabric was bold enough and a plain lining would complement it nicely. Only downside of using a checked/plaid pattern is trying to pattern match it. I think I did a good job across the collar and lapels but it's a bit off at the side seams.

I very much recommend this pattern to any intermediate sewist whose a bit intimidated by sewing coats. I feel like I've learnt so much from completing this project that I'm actually looking forward to sewing another coat next winter.
