Buy the Intrepid Boiler Suit sewing pattern from Alice & Co Patterns. The Intrepid Boiler Suit is a top-to-toe cover-up that can be made as practical or glamorous as your heart desires! The design features a shoulder yoke, classic shirt collar and slightly tapered leg. It fastens with a zip down the centre-front, whilst the waistband casing allows you to cinch in the waist with a belt or elastic. The suit is loose-fitting but not baggy. There is a seam around the waist to allow for adjustments to the length of the body - vital for ensuring you can sit down comfortably! You can certainly do more than fix the boiler in this suit...and we guarantee once you have this on you won't want to wear anything else!

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

- PDF (available to download immediately after purchase). What is a PDF?

- PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you'll need to download the digital instructions, as we don't print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?

Note if purchasing copy shop printing: Some pattern pieces are divided across two A0 sheets. The sheets will need to be joined with no overlap.

Suggested fabrics: For full workwear chic choose a light-weight denim or cotton twill. For a smarter look, a light wool or wool mix (e.g. viscose/crepe) in pinstripe or houndstooth check would look great. Go glamorous in heavy-weight silk or polyester crepe or cosy up in a firm wool jersey or ponte version. Avoid anything too stiff or bulky.

Fabric requirements: 140 cm (55") wide fabric: Sizes 8 - 12, 3 m (3 1/2 yd) // Sizes 14 - 16, 3.5 m (3 3/4 yd) // Sizes 18 - 22, 4 m (4 1/2 yd).

Sizing: UK 6 - 22. Please check the size chart.

Notions: Zip: For sizes 8 - 16 you will want a zip approx. 50 cm (20") long. For sizes 18 - 22, or if you are tall, you may find a 56 cm (22") long zip more comfortable // Optional: 4 cm wide elastic to go inside the waistband casing (the length of your waist measurement minus 10 cm).

PDF pattern includes: Instructions (A4 and US letter formats); A4 print-at-home pattern (48 pages for sizes 6-18, 49 pages for sizes 18-22); US letter print-at-home pattern (48 pages for sizes 6-18, 55 pages for sizes 18-22); A0 copy shop pattern (3 sheets for sizes 6-18, 4 sheets for sizes 18-22). Note: You must print this pattern in colour.

PDF Pattern Requires Colour Printer

I just purchased this pattern from the Alice & Co website and haven't made it yet. I wanted to warn potential buyers that this pdf pattern requires a colour printer. The sizes are different coloured lines (not the typical different line weights/dashed lines). There are no pdf layering options, so you cannot print just the size(s) you need.

My printer is black ink only. Unfortunately, the sizes all printed the same darkness, so I can't tell the difference between the different sizes. I am going to have to count the lines to figure out which line corresponds with my size when I cut the pattern. I am obviously disappointed and pretty annoyed. It is not clear on the Alice &Co website or this webpage that their pdf patterns require a colour printer. It is mentioned in a sentence when you click through for more details on pdf printing. It should be mentioned though, on the main pattern page.

I will post a review of the pattern when I make it. However, I would not recommend this pattern at this point.

Intrepid Boiler Suit

This ended up being the exact pattern I needed with a few minor tweaks. The zipper installation was a bit tricky for me. I think I could have used some more stabilizer around that area on this 7 oz denim. I shortened the inseam quite a bit as I wanted them slightly cropped. I also changed the chest pockets to make them larger and made the collar slightly smaller. I added some elastic into the casing and a lot of topstitching. I love how it turned out!
