Vanessa Hansen Toril Trousers

Buy the Toril Trousers sewing pattern from Vanessa Hansen. Originally published in TAUKO Magazine Issue No. 4, this is a straightforward pattern with a fun twist. Toril has a hem flounce for when you want to feel playful or channel your inner ABBA queen. Or you can make Toril without the flounce for a comfortable pair of trousers with endless possibilities depending on your fabric choice.

These trousers have an invisible zip in the side seam and elastic in the waist to fit a variety of body shapes and adjust to your body as its changes over time. The waist is finished with pre-made (or handmade) bias tape in a simple and clever way.

Note if purchasing copy shop printing: Some of the pattern pieces have been split (to fit on the A0 sheets) and will need to be joined together.

Suggested fabrics: Choose a medium to lightweight trouser fabric with some drape – for instance, wool blend suiting, a linen/viscose blend, stone-washed linen, chambrays, or general trouser fabrics.

The powder coloured sample with a flounce was made with a fine 100% cotton corduroy (4.3 oz/145 gsm). The light grey trousers were made from a herringbone linen blend (50% linen, 50% cotton, 4.3 oz/145 gsm).

Fabric requirements: 

Version A (with flounce): 55″ (140 cm) wide fabric: 50″ – 94.9″ (127 – 241 cm).

Version B: 55″ (140 cm) wide fabric: 43.3″- 94.5″ (110 – 240 cm).

Sizing: 1 – 9 (approx. UK 6 – 32, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: Bias binding, same length as the trouser waist measurement for your size + 0.8″ (2 cm) for seam allowances, 0.7″ (1.8 cm) wide (recommended width, but you can use other widths); elastic for waist, same length as your body waist measurement, 0.3″-0.4″ (0.7-1 cm) wide; invisible zipper, 8″ (20 cm).
