Buy the Alea Shirt and Dress sewing pattern from Marsha Style. Alea is a relaxed fit design that combines classic shirt styling with feminine and modern elements. The pattern comes in two lengths, a shirt or shirt dress with side seam splits. The dress has an option for a gathered waist.

This dropped shoulder design includes several sleeve options: sleeveless, a classic cuffed sleeve, and a gathered hem sleeve that can be varied in length and finish. Alea offers two collar options: a classic shirt collar or a modern variation of the stand up collar. Both variations are designed to be worn open or closed. The pattern also includes an optional slanted patch pocket with flap.

Suggested fabrics: Mid-weight woven fabrics like linen, cotton, tencel, viscose, rayon or poplin. Or you can create a softer garment using lightweight versions of the above.

Fabric requirements: 

View A (shirt): 56″ (1.4 m) wide fabric: 1.7 – 2.4 yd (1.5 – 2.2 m).

Views B and C (dress): 56″ (1.4 m) wide fabric: 3.0 – 3.6 yd (2.8 – 3.3 m).

View D (dress): 56″ (1.4 m) wide fabric: 2.4 – 3.1 yd (2.2 – 2.8 m).

Sizing: US 2 – 30 (approx. UK 6 – 34, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

The pattern is designed for a height of 170 cm (5’7″). Adjustments in length can be done using the lengthening/shortening lines through the waist and hip and at the hem. Given its relaxed fit, this style can be comfortably worn by bust sizes A – G.

It is recommended to consider your own measurements as well as the finished size chart when choosing a size. You can size up to achieve a generous oversized look or down to achieve a more fitted look. The blouse can be worn out or tucked into bottoms. The dress can be worn loose at the waist, fitted with the elastic waist included in the pattern, or with a belt or waist tie. It is recommended to size down one size for View D.
