Buy the Lodo Dress sewing pattern from True Bias. The Lodo is an elevated take on a basic t-shirt dress. It has a straight fit through the waist and hips and a slightly tapered hem to create a subtle cocoon shape. It has a V neck at centre front and an extended cap sleeve. Both the neckline and armholes are finished with a woven facing for stability and structure. View A has a hem that hits at mid calf with a slit at centre back for moveability. View B’s hem hits a couple of inches above the knee.

Suggested fabrics: Medium weight stable knit fabric with an approximate 25% stretch such as ponte, cotton interlock, and lightweight scuba // Facing: Medium weight woven fabric such as quilting cotton or linen.
Fabric requirements:
45" (114 cm) wide fabric: View A: Sizes 14 - 30, 3 yd (2.7 m) // View B: Sizes 14 - 30, 2.3 yd (2.1 m).
54" (137 cm) wide fabric: View A: Sizes 0 - 18, 1.5 - 2.7 yd (1.4 - 2.5 m) / Sizes 14 - 30, 2.5 - 3 yd (2.3 - 2.7 m) // View B: Sizes 0 - 18, 1.2 - 1.75 yd (1.1 - 1.6 m) / Sizes 14 - 30, 1.5 - 2.3 yd (1.4 - 2.1 m).
Facing: 0.5 yd (0.5 m).
Sizing: US 0 - 18 with a C cup (approx. UK 8 - 20) or US 14 - 30 with a D cup (approx. UK 16 - 32). Please check the size charts and finished garment measurements.
Note: The size ranges have been drafted from different blocks. The 14 – 30 block has a slightly more curvy set of dimensions than the 0 – 18 block. The 14 – 30 block has a D instead of a C cup (meaning a 4″ rather than a 3″ difference between your full and high bust) and has a 1″ larger difference between the waist and hip circumference. Both size ranges are drafted for an average height of 5’5″.

This top was a bit of a toile to check the fit and see if I liked the bound neck and arm holes. It’s made of cotton jersey interlock and I didn’t do myself any favours by cutting the bottom edges right on the edges of the fabric, which rolled and meant I ended up ‘levelling’ the bottom hem about three times. I also got my lines muddled up around the neck opening and so have to recut the neck facing, possible in a different size from the rest of the garment. Despite that, it was quick to make and the bound edges are a nice alternative to twin needle finishing for knits. I used some very stiff linen to bind which gave the sleeves a pleasing structure. I’d probably go up a size next time and then blend down at the waist. Planning a dress version in ponte de Roma for cooler months. I suspect this would also work with woven fabrics too so plenty of possible ways to adapt.
The only reason I gave four stars was for the price, I think the paper version is quite expensive, consider how simple the pattern is.

I love the lodo dress it's a great simple pattern which can be hacked into a t-shirt as well. I hacked mine into a button-up dress! The fabric is a stretch denim which is ideal for this pattern. In hindsight I should have got up a size for a bit more ease but I love this dress for summer. It looks great with my linen jacket.

This is my Lodo Dress from True Bias which I’ve shortened to a top. I’ve already made it 4 times. I made up the full dress version for winter nightshirts, which I lived in throughout the winter. It is IMO a perfect pattern.
I made a size 4, according to my bust measurement. I’m usually a UK size 10.

The Lodo dress is very nicely designed, slightly cocoon shape and very comfortable. Secret Pajamas! I made 2 versions and this one in the slightly heavier stretchier blue jersey - viscose? I got it from Fabricland in Kingston, about £5 metre, then saw it at Sew Over it for rather more :) This fabric was way better that the other Lodo (in very thin tee shirting), doesn't crease, both washes and wears well. The pattern has woven facings which mean the neck and armholes hold their shape and give a nice finish, I used a bit of Liberty tana lawn for the purpose. Good idea to staystitch neck and armholes though. Easy to make and I've been wearing it all summer long, to work and at home. 5 stars
