Buy the Stacker Jacket sewing pattern from Papercut Patterns. A jacket of all trades, this is your everyday utility button-up in a cropped boxy fit. With a choice of flapped in-seam pockets or oversized patch pockets to carry all your essentials, the Stacker is fully lined and features a drop shoulder and a classic collar. It’s as versatile as a Swiss Army knife, really. Worn here with the Twist Pants.

Suggested fabrics: Mid to heavy weight cottons, linens, corduroy, wools and blends.
Fabric requirements:
Main fabric: 140 cm (55") wide fabric: 1.7 - 2 m (1.85 - 2.2 yd) // 114 cm (45") wide fabric: 2.3 m (2.5 yd)
Lining: 114 cm (45") wide fabric: 1.35 - 1.6 m (1.5 - 1.75 yd)
Pocketing: 114 cm (45") wide fabric: 0.2 m (0.25 yd)
Sizing: 1 - 8 (approx. UK 4 - 20, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer's size chart and finished garment measurements.
Notions: 0.9 m (1 yd) of 114 cm (45") wide fusing; four buttons, 2.5-3 cm (1"-1 1/4") diameter, plus optional two extra buttons for pockets; matching thread.

This was my first lined jacket and it was a dream to make. Very clear instructions throughout. Several reviewers have pointed out the slightly short sleeves and although this is probably part of the boxy cropped design I would definitely add 2-3 cm next time.
I found the pattern to be true to size and made no fitting adjustments. It is meant to be boxy and generous, but a toile is always a good idea so you can get the best fit for your shape. I made my jacket with 12 oz twill and the weight of the fabric works well with the boxy design.
The instructions suggest horizontal button holes centred, but most jackets that I have seen use vertical button holes, which give a good and reliable alignment of the button into the centre of the button band.

I saved this on my Instagram Feed last summer when it kept popping up. I was thinking about using a drill /heavy linen type fabric as a summer jacket but other garments got in first and I really wanted to buy the fabric in person to make this.
However, I picked up this deadstock strokeable slightly furry coat weight fabric from a local shop in a brief shopping window in November and thought it a perfect match.
I was in between sizes but after some research decided to size down.
I did make a toile in some grey drill, something I shall take apart, add interfacing, and make up as a summer version, and the only change I decided to make was to add a cm to each side seam, just at the very bottom, on my hip, blending to nothing at the waist.
Many sewers have lengthened the jacket 2 or 4 inches or even to mid thigh (will be trying that one) but I didn’t touch the pattern length on this one.
It was an incredibly satisfying sew.
The instructions are superb. Everything went together like clockwork. I don’t remember a single tricky bit.
It's fully lined and that was fairly straight forward too!

made mine from a wide whale corduroy with a lining and a wadding ( for warmth). Made as pattern except for omitting buttons on the lovely big pockets and replacing button holes with large poppers ( machine didn’t cope with thickness)
