Papercut Patterns Luna Jacket

I recently made this red floral Kochi jacket in a rayon challis from Telio fabrics.  I made a straight size XS and it fits great! Its a loose fit but that's the style and I think it works well in a drapey challis fabric.  I made variation C with no pockets or ties because of the light fabric.  It's nice and flowy and doesn't look too boxy in this style an fabric.  I did sew the side slits and think this gives it some interest since I didn't do any contrasting neckline or any additional details.  I tried to do French seams on this given the light weight fabrics but found the multiple layers in the armpit of the drop shoulder sleeves created too much twisting and didn't look good at all.  I ripped out the sides seams and served them instead and it fixed the majority of the problem.  An additional technique I'd recommend is to stay stitch the neckline to prevent any stretching that might result in the neckband piece not fitting.  Easy to follow instructions on this pattern and I think if you make the simplest view, a beginner could master this pattern quickly.  I'd love to sew this up in a linen or handwoven cotton but would make variation 1 with the ties to give it more fit with a structured fabric.

A satisfying enjoyable sew. I made view A... made size S even though I measured as M. In a drapier fabric I might go for the bigger size. The instructions were straightforward. After cutting out I decided I would line it so went ahead and cut the lining. The lining is for a different view and the front piece is not the right size for this view... but I made it work. I absolutely love it and can't wait for Edinburgh to warm up so I can wear it. The fabric is from a swap, a heavy thick cotton with a fairly loose weave. It was bright blue and white but I died it with DylonMossGreen and love how it turned out. Lined in cotton poplin. Not sure about the double ties at the sides... when you tie it you have a dangling spare ribbon at both sides... although I like that when it's open.

I went completely maverick with this kimono pattern from Papercut Patterns, ignored their fabric advice that it should be made out of anything as long as it was woven and made this out of a wool mix knit fabric. Doh. However, it seems to be holding up okay. I struggled with both the neck band and pockets because of my own silly choice of fabric.
It's a really easy pattern with both lined and unlined versions and choice of pockets or without pockets. I went for version three (unlined with a neck band) and added pockets it it. The pattern really does run large and despite measuring the size S, I went with size XS and it still seems oversized (it fits around the shoulders though). It's pretty boxy in such a thick fabric but I love the shape. I'd recommend making this - I'll be making another in something woven and drapey next!
