FLOWERS FOR SPRING: MCCALL’S 7606

McCall's 7606 is a wrap-skirt and bodysuit combination; the two wrap skirts are different lengths, and View C has a statement ruffle (which is the option I went for). It's an excellent pattern for beginners and really easy to sew -- the only tricky part is how long it takes to gather the ruffle! I made a straight size M and didn’t make any adjustments to the fit, but I did switch to French seams to finish the garment; as the hem dips at the back and the wrong side is slightly visible, I wanted to make sure everything looked pretty on the inside.

I made View C out of a light cotton, so it feels so light and airy during this current heatwave – you can see more pictures and details on my blog!

I would recommend 7606 for a beginner sewist looking to make a wrap skirt, but if I were to make it again, I would consider lengthening and widening the tie ends — this is just purely a personal preference, but I think a bigger bow tie at waist would look better.

Floaty Rayon wrap skirt ?

I love this skirt! I used a woven rayon to make view C (shorter length skirt) without the ruffle because of fabric restrictions. I actually chopped up an ill-fitting maxi dress so was really pleased I could eek this out of the fabric available. I sewed up the size according to my measurements and the fit is spot on (although I guess you have a bit of leeway considering the true wrap nature of this design). It’s lovely in this rayon and swishes gloriously when you’re on the move... although I’ll warn you in very windy weather you do need to be ready to save yourself from showing a little too much leg!. I can’t wait to make the version C with the ruffle next time.
