Grainline Studio Farrow Dress

This pattern is ace! It's one of the most comfortable things I've ever made and I am definitely making more.
It's a trapeze dress, tent dress, swing dress, whatever you want to call it. It doesn't cling anywhere but hangs beautifully. It's very cleverly constructed and the final look is very understated but stylish at the same time.
I made a size 4, exactly as is with the exception of converting the separate facings into an all-in-one.
The drapey fabric really works here and adds to the swish factor.

I've made two versions of this dress now - both in crepe - and receive loads of compliments every time I wear them, from sewists and non-sewing folk alike!
The shape is really chic and I think it benefits from a drapey fine fabric to show that off and avoid looking a bit like a Christmas tree. Obviously the crowning glory of this pattern is the pockets, and the construction of them is really interesting: it's a bit of a head scratcher at first but totally satisfying when done.
The front hem comes up pretty short so bear this in mind if you're tall - I ended up adding some length to this version.

Another pattern that I've already made two version of an that I wear ALL THE TIME. I've got one in a really heavy navy cotton twill which had no chill and sits structured around me like a cartoon characters clothing and a lovely drapey one in black ponte jersey. I wear them both to work on a very regular occasion and the twill one translate well to fancy occasions. I actually sized down a tiny bit and went for an size 8 in both and I'm really glad I did. I think I'd have been swamped in fabric in the size 10.

As always with Grainline patterns, the instructions were really easy to understand and follow and I used their sew-along on the blog to help with anything I found tricky. I didn't make any mods except shortening the sleeves on the black version by a couple of inches (I always push my sleeves up anyway so made sense...). I'd love to make this up an a flannel or something similar and I've go plans for a linen summer version.
