From the school run to the office, you'll feel stylishly smart yet comfortable wearing it. The dress has a slim front silhouette with a gathered waist at the back. Other features include shoulder darts, raglan sleeves with two length options, and an invisible zip.

Suggested fabrics: Lightweight to medium weight woven fabrics such as denim, chambray, crepe, silk, viscose and cotton.
Fabric requirements: 112 cm wide fabric: 2.7 - 3 m // 145 cm wide fabric: 2 - 2.7 m // Allow extra fabric to match one-way designs, plaids or stripes.
Sizing: UK 6 - 22. Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.
Notions: Thread; 56 cm (22") invisible zipper; 1 m of 5 mm elastic for gathering; 0.25 m of iron-on interfacing.
PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4 print-at-home pattern (30 pages); US letter print-at-home pattern (32 pages); A0 copy shop pattern (2 sheets).

I made this in the short sleeve version. It looks as expected, probably better. I loved the instructions and because of this I enjoyed the sewing process very much!
I will be looking to use The Avid Seamstress again.

I've made two Gathered Dresses, long and short sleeve versions and I liked the fit so much, especially the bodice, that I knew I wanted to try the bodice out as a pattern hack with different skirts to make more dresses! I used two metres of wide double gauze from Stitch fabrics, bought at a local craft show earlier this year to make a maxi sundress which made the most of the floaty fabric qualities. The gauze was really soft with great drape! I used the top bodice and sleeve, tracing the front piece off and shortening it to the pattern waistline marking on the back bodice. I added the skirt and pockets from an old favourite, Simplicity 1801 (old Cynthia Rowley pattern). The skirt front and back have gathered sections so it was easy to get the top to join with the skirt. I added waist ties at the back to bring it in so the dress can still go over my head. I squeezed it out of the 2m with almost no scraps left!
