Buy the Day Dress sewing pattern from The Avid Seamstress. This dress features a fitted bodice, gathered skirt and in-seam pockets. The front bodice has three options: View A has a seam at the centre front, View B has buttons at the centre front, and View C has no seam at the centre front. All views have an invisible zip at the back.

Suggested fabrics: Lightweight to medium weight fabrics are perfect for this pretty dress. Not suitable for stripes, diagonals or plaids.
Fabric requirements: 114 cm wide fabric: 2.5 m // 150 cm wide fabric: 1.65 m // Allow extra fabric to match one-way designs.
Sizing: UK 8 - 18. Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.
Notions: Thread; 56 cm (22") invisible zipper; 1 m of elastic (6 mm wide) // View B: Six 1.5 cm buttons; 0.5 m of iron-on interfacing.

Hello to my 2021 Day Dress.
Each year since I first made this dress, I have made myself another every Summer, and this year's version is such a happy dress don't you think?
The day dress is a classic. Featuring a fitted bodice with bust and waist darts, gently gathered waist, inseam pockets and a zip running down the centre back, it's probably a pattern for someone who has a bit of sewing experience 'under their belt'.
The design is simple and elegant which I think is why I reach for this pattern every year. It's my 'tried and tested' dress pattern and makes me feel special every time I wear it.
The fabric that I have used for this project is a sunflower print cotton poplin from Minerva.com and I would like to be clear that this fabric was gifted to me in exchange for a review on their site which you can view here

I’d actually made this dress once before for my son’s fiance and finally got around to making it for myself. This time I omitted the pockets as I don’t like the extra bulk at the hips. I mistakenly sewed the lower front skirt the wrong way around (vertical/horizontal) but luckily it doesn’t really notice in the fabric pattern and lengthwise it worked fine with a small hem which suited the fabric anyway. I was reluctant to unpick as the fabric was marking at the slightest touch. The only other thing I did differently was to apply interfacing to the neck facing and this has made it sit better than it did on my first make.
It’s a lovely dress and I shall make it again. I cut it as a size 3 at the top graded to a 4 by the waist.
The instructions are superb and there’s online tutorials if needed.

Really love this dress pattern. The instructions are easy to follow and it's a great style - gathered waist with side seam pockets in the skirt. I used a chiffon but I'd recommend using a fabric with slightly more weight to it.
