Buy the Tea House Top and Dress sewing pattern from Sew House Seven. Easily worn for many different occasions, the Tea House can be modern or vintage-inspired depending on your choice of fabric.
This pattern features a V-neckline with front and back neck yokes, front seaming, in-seam angled pockets (for the dress version), a back neck box pleat, cuffed dolman short sleeves and two different tie options. Versions A, B and C feature wide in-seam front or back ties. Versions D, E and F feature a thin waist tie threaded through a back tunnel and tied in front or back. There are three length options: Versions A and D are hip length tops, versions B and E are above-the-knee length dresses, and versions C and F are tea length dresses. There are no closures to sew - just slip it on and tie!

Note if purchasing copy shop printing: Some of the pattern pieces are divided across two A0 sheets. The sheets will need to be joined at the markings.
Suggested fabrics:
Versions A, B and C: Lightweight fabrics such as rayon challis, wool challis, silk charmeuse, cotton voile, linen.
Versions D, E and F: Lightweight fabrics such as cotton lawn, cotton voile, linen, chambray, cotton madras, cotton yarn dye.
Fabric requirements: Allow extra fabric if matching stripes or plaids or using border prints.
Top A and D: 44" (112 cm) wide fabric: 2 5/8 - 4 yd (2.4 - 3.7 m) // 58"-60" (147 cm) wide fabric: 2 1/2 - 3 1/4 yd (2.25 - 3 m).
Dress B and E: 44" (112 cm) wide fabric: 4 3/8 - 5 yd (4 - 4.6 m) // 58"-60" (147 cm) wide fabric: 3 1/8 - 3 7/8 yd (2.9 - 3.5 m).
Dress C and F: 44" (112 cm) wide fabric: 4 5/8 - 5 3/8 yd (4.2 - 4.9 m) // 58"-60" (147 cm) wide fabric: 3 1/2 - 4 yd (3.2 - 3.7 m).
Sizing: US 0 - 20 (approx. UK 6 - 22). Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.
Notions: Thread; 3/8 yd (34 cm) lightweight fusible interfacing.

I am a fan of this dress!
I would not call it a 'quick' make - it took me around 10 hours including cutting out, as there are quite a few pattern pieces and therefore more steps.
I definitely found that it I followed the instructions carefully, the pattern pieces came together really nicely. The seams around the neck and front panel area are all enclosed and it's a really comfy dress to wear, very easy to move around it.
I used a ginkgo print cotton lawn from my local fabric shop. I didn't originally buy it for this project, so there wasn't quite enough fabric to make the version with the wide waist tie, so I used the thin waist tie with back channel view instead. I think the tie is a bit on the skinny side so would make it a wee bit wider it I was doing this again...it could also work with a belt.
The size came up correct for my measurements and I didn't alter it.
I enjoyed this make, and as someone who seldom 'dresses up' formally, I think my Tea House Dress has just the right balance of comfy, pretty and casual and I look forward to wearing it out and about.

My second tea house and this time I really like it ! I didn’t enjoy the first time around making this pattern but now I am reconciled with it. I love this dress so much. It was easy to construct and is so comfortable to wear.

Fabric Used: Worsted wool suiting, blue houndstooth with widowpane check
Instructions: Easy to follow
Pattern: Printed the A0 pdf, traced my size (16)
Fitting alterations: Lengthened the bodice by 2m to allow more room for an ample bust!
General: I made the shorter dress version this time, and plan to wear the dress in the Autumn and Winter with leggings or tights, boots and layering tees or thin jumpers. The wool is lovely and soft, but has body to keep a good shape, and it will keep me warm!

This is a good beginner project. The instructions are very clear and well ordered. There were no ‘head scratching ‘ moments. It is quite a loose fitting garment so it is forgiving on the fitting side of things. I graded it up a size and everything went together very smoothly. It looks like the picture when it is sewn up and is very comfy to wear. I was really pleased with the finished dress and will definitely make more. There are options for different lengths and two different options for the ties. You could use a variety of fabrics. I chose a denim for a warmer winter dress but have plans for one in a light cotton one for the summer.
