Buy the Mississippi Avenue Dress and Top sewing pattern from Sew House Seven. As a sleeveless style, the Mississippi Avenue Dress and Top lends itself to spring and summer dressing, then makes a great transition piece when paired with a cardigan, tights and boots. It can have a vintage look when sewn in a drapey fabric such as rayon challis, or it can have a more modern look when sewn in a crisp linen or cotton. Any way you fashion it, it's a great style.
The Mississippi Avenue features a v-neckline, spaghetti shoulder ties, an elastic almost-empire waist (slightly higher than the natural waistline) and a front panel that creates an interesting design feature. There are three length options: Top A falls below the high hip, Dress B falls above the knee, and Dress C falls a little below the knee.

Suggested fabrics: Lightweight fabrics with some drape such as rayon challis, wool challis, cotton lawn, cotton voile, some linens, chambray, cotton madras.
Fabric requirements:
44"-45" (115 cm) wide fabric: Top A, 1 3/4 - 2 1/8 yd (1.60 - 1.94 m) // Dress B, 2 3/8 - 2 5/8 yd (2.17 - 2.40 m) // Dress C, 2 3/4 - 3 yd (2.50 - 2.75 m).
54"-60" (150 cm) wide fabric: Top A, 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 yd (1.37 - 1.60 m) // Dress B, 2 - 2 1/4 yd (1.82 - 2.06 m) // Dress C, 2 3/8 - 2 5/8 yd (2.17 - 2.40 m).
Sizing: US 0 - 20 (approx. UK 6/8 - 22). Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.
Notions: Approx. 1 yd (1 m) of 3/8" (1 cm) wide elastic (about 2"/5 cm smaller than your waist measurement).

Meet my new favourite summer dress - the Mississippi Avenue dress by SewHouse7 (aka Simplicity 8231)
This is such a great pattern - it's a pull-on dress which is relatively quick and easy to sew and features some great design details, including sweet shoulder ties and a central front panel which allows an elastic casing to fit through the sides and back only, leaving the front of the dress comfortably fee. It is a very rare day indeed when I get to sew a garment where I need to make little to no fit adjustments, but apart from rotating the shoulder forward 0.5" (which I do with everything!) no other fit alterations were needed!
The neck and armholes are finished with bias binding - the instructions are great but I do have thoughts on that neckline which I go into in more detail over on my blog www.sewsarahsmith.com

A dress or top to make for beginners because it requires no zippers or buttons to be installed. It is cinched in at the waist (empire waistline) by elastic, has shoulder ties and an interesting geometric detail created by the three front panels of the skirt. Casual, easy and effortless. Longer version made with tie shoulders in an inexpensive viscose at £3 a metre off Lichfield market!
Pretty straightforward, neck can be a little tricky but persevered and quite pleased in the end.
