Paper Theory Patterns LB Pullover

This was one of the very first patterns I made when I started sewing back in 2019. I had absolutelty no idea what I was doing but the pattern is very simple and instructions are clear and I ended up with some very wearable versions! Because I did not know what I was doing I made my first version in seersucker (!) which is not at all a recommended fabric but actually in a moment of beginners luck made this really cool, cropped, high necked structured garments that I still wear and get loads of compliments on. I have also made a quilted version of this jumper which is super super cosy. I think the key to why this pattern works is that it is a fairly cropped length which keeps it neat and modern feeling. The roll neck option is great as the neck is properly tall and cosy feeling. I have worn my LB pullovers alot and recommend this as a great beginner pattern that makes up wearable, practical, stylish jumpers and tops.

I really like this blocky top.  I made the option B, crew, neckband.  The shape of the top and way the neck stands up reminds me of an artist's smock. The pattern was very quick to sew.  I had to take a couple of runs at the neckline as there is a bit of ease needed and my first attempt had a tuck.  Otherwise it is very straightforward.

Sewing extras: although the pattern didn't say I added some elastic tape on the shoulders to stop it going out of shape.  I made up the size 14 (I normally take 12-14 or medium) as I felt it needed a bit of slouch.

Material: I made it up in a baby cord with a little bit of stretch.  I think it would also be good in fleece or t-shirt material.  If I was doing a t-shirt I would add an extra couple of inches to the length so it would tuck in.

It’s extremely quick to make and works well for knits as well as woven fabrics. The orange one is boiled wool, -unhemmed awaiting a decision about leaving the side seams open at the bottom for a it of a split, or not.

Omitting the sleeves gives a useful t shirt, and the neck band can be made wider or narrower in unlimited ways to suit the fabric being used.

I lengthened mine a couple of inches because my torso is quite long but the original length is also useful for adding a jersey band at the bottom.

I have never written a pattern review in Foldline before, but I LOVE this pattern and wanted to share my make! I made the US size 12 per the chart provided based on my measurements and made no additional alterations, wanting enough ease to wear a light layer underneath for the material that I had chosen, which was the Merchant&Mills quilted cotton in Olive.

The instructions were very clear and it took me just a couple of hours to complete from cutting to wearing. Now that I've made the LB, I can see many more in my closet!

was a little unsure of this pattern, as it is  essentially a cropped jumper, so i added 5 inches, and a waistband, then added some cuffs, the cut is really flattering, and whilst i would love to make the cropped version, my body shape is not suitable to it, by adding inches and the waistband, it is a really nice jumper/sweater,  Ive made a few, using both neck styles, i actually like the higher neckline better.
