Our Lady of Leisure Gimlet Boilersuit

The Gimlet Boilersuit is a fab design that is comfortable to wear and also looks great. It features a flat collar, tie belt, pockets and a button up front. I made a straight size C which is the UK equivalent of a size 10 with no adjustments. I usually do an FBA but the ease in the garment meant that I didn't need to. Fitting is a doddle because you just cinch the waist in with the belt.

This was my first time making a pattern by this company and I'm really happy with it. I thought the instructions were clear and the illustrations were helpful. The construction is very straightforward and it can easily be sewn up in an afternoon. I used a linen viscose for my version and it's worked really well. I'd like to make further versions in courdroy and denim.

I've only given the pattern four stars because there are a few errors in the pattern. A couple of the pattern pieces are mislabelled and the instructions tell you to cut out one collar piece when you obviously need two. It wasn't a big deal for me as I'm a competent sewist but it could catch out someone less experienced.

Aside from those minor details it's a great design and I've had non stop compliments when wearing it.

This is one of my favourite patterns of all time. It sews up in an afternoon, there's nothing tricky or to trip you up and the overall result is fantastic. I get so many compliments.

There are one or two misprints on the pattern but nothing which isn't obvious to figure out, and the instructions are super clear.

The instructions of the pattern were pretty straightforward and easy to understand. I also really liked how accurate the illustrations were.

Apart from shortening the pants by two inches I didn’t make any alterations to the pattern which I cut in size B (UK size 8/US size 4).

I struggled a bit with easing in the collar/facing and didn’t manage to have the facing lying flat. Otherwise  the sewing went along pretty quickly.

The fabric I chose is a light weight woven cotton that reminds me very much of my late grandpa’s work overalls and is really comfy to wear. I needed around 2,5 metres, so a lot less than the recommended 3,3 metres.

I was quite nervous about the contrasting topstitching but it turned out better than expected. All in all the finished garment looks exactly like i pictured it in my mind ?

A great pattern for a first try at making a boiler suit. I found the construction really simple to put together and so long as you get on okay with top stitching it sews together really easily. I managed to construct this in half a day. The instructions are written well and guide you through the construction. I really like how the instructions guide you through the fiddly bits first so that once the construction of the suit begins it comes together very quickly.

I found there were a couple of typo errors on the pattern pieces which is why I’ve given the pattern four instead of five. For the collar piece it states you only need to cut one but you need to cut two out. I also found with the waist tie you need to also cut two (the pattern piece states you only cut out one).

I thought the trousers were going to come up too big so took some fabric off the crotch and back seam but once I’d sewn them up I realised I needn’t have done that so had to let my seams out so they’re quite small. The belt really helps to bring the waist in once you’ve constructed it.

It’s really comfortable to wear and the pockets are a good size. I’ve made mine up in a denim and plan to make another one soon in corduroy. It’s really comfy to wear!
