Emulating Little Women

After re-watching the new Little Women film, I decided to commit to a cape.  I love it!

I was attracted to this pattern because of the funnel neck, which provides additional warmth.

I chose to line my cape as the wool is quite scratchy. I've put details of this on my blog. The pattern recommends boiled/felted wool, which wouldn't need lining if you want an easier make.

I cut my pieces on the flat, which took longer but was worth it for straight lines and pattern matching at the neck/cape meeting point.

The welt pockets are actually quite small. I think it's because bigger pockets would dangle down past the bottom of the cape, so it makes sense and I can fit my hands in.

Mimosa Jacket - I Am Patterns

I fell in love with this pattern right away when I first saw it. It seemed like the perfect layering piece for our northern climate. And I was not disappointed.

I am Patterns' Mimosa is a simple cape with nice welt pockets. I used medium weight wool which was easy to sew. This was a quick make. Welt pockets took some time since they are not my strongest area but otherwise the cape was very easy to sew.

I would recommend this pattern to everyone looking for an easy and rewarding winter sewing project. If you are a beginner sewist, you can leave out the pockets, which makes this project even quicker and easier.
