Buy the Cambria Duster Coat sewing pattern from Friday Pattern Company. The Cambria Duster is a shin length, unlined duster that is perfect for layering. It features a dramatic, wide draped shawl-style collar. Tie the ties in back for a clean, shapely look, or wrap them around in front for a little more coverage.

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following format:

– PAPER (next working day dispatch on orders and FREE UK delivery over £50)

Suggested fabrics: This pattern is designed for woven fabrics but can be made out of a knit as well. It would look great made out of anything with a bit of drape like a rayon twill, gabardine, rayon challis, etc. It would also look great made out of something a little warmer with more body like a light wool or boucle!

Fabric requirements: You may need to purchase extra fabric if your fabric has a heavy nap, is directional, striped, or has an obvious repeat.

45" (114 cm) wide fabric: XS-M, 4 1/2 yd (4.1 m) // L-XXL, 5 1/8 yd (4.7 m) // 1X-4X, 6 1/8 yd (5.6 m)

54"-60" (137-152 cm) wide fabric: XS-M, 3 1/2 yd (3.2 m) // L-XXL, 4 1/8 yd (3.8 m) // 1X-4X, 4 2/3 yd (4.3 m)

Sizing: XS - 4X (approx. UK 6 - 28). Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: Matching thread; safety pin // Optional: 15 yd of bias tape for seam finishing.

Oh Sew Fearless
So glad I stumbled across this one...

I was on track to make a Nova jacket when I spied this pattern and switched my plan completely. I'm so glad I did. I really enjoyed making this one. The instructions are really clear and it was a fairly quick and very satisfying sew.

A great transitional coat

This is pattern is just so versatile and easygoing. I made a toile out of old bed sheets in a size S which I use as a robe now. The pattern is rather narrow around the shoulders, so I opted to sew up the final version (which I’m gifting to my mother who is quite a lot taller than me) in a size M.

Following the instructions I finished almost all seams with bias binding. One thing the pattern is lacking in my opinion is the option to line the coat. This would make it suitable for winter coats as well. I also couldn’t find any sewalongs on Friday Pattern Co’s blog.

The fabric I used is a wool blend coating from Minerva and was a steal (on sale for £6,99 per meter). It’s probably the heaviest I’d go for this pattern as the bound seams would get rather bulky otherwise. Because of this bulk I also chose to finish the hems by hand.

Linen Cambria Duster

I made this using the new version of the Cambria Duster pattern. I made a size XL - even though it is "oversized," the shoulders and back fit true to that size based on my measurements. I also shortened mine by ~4 inches. With the exception of getting the collar on, the construction was relatively easy. I'd consider making another one in a more wintery fabric so I can have a spring version and a winter version.

Navy cambria duster - a great simple jacket!

I really enjoyed this pattern, I found it very simple and strightforward to make. I've never made any kind of jacket or coat before but this has no closures or complex details!

I feel very elegant and sleek in the jacket, and I can wear it three different ways depending on how I feel/how cold it is!
