Buy the Tessellate Tee sewing pattern from Fehr Trade. This long- or short-sleeved tee has a banded neck and asymmetric seaming. You can add thumb cuffs to the sleeves (without any hand sewing!), a hood with a special opening for your ponytail, or a zippered back pocket (perfect for cycling and hiking). Choose to add just one, or even all three features! The thumb cuffs are also interchangeable with the hand mitts from the women's Surf to Summit Top. The geometric seaming on the front and back makes this top perfect for colour-blocking.

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

What we think: This is a great piece to colour-block and use up some of your stash, and with the extra add-on features you can really make it your own.

get ahead of the field in a Tesselate Tee!

If you’re looking for a well-drafted and striking activewear top pattern then the Fehrtrade Tesselate Tee could be just what you’re looking for. Melissa makes her patterns original by using interesting style lines and a variety of options which means you can use up scraps, or create mix-and-match exercise wear. I made a size medium long-sleeved top from 3 different fabrics (2 were bought specifically and one was remnants from another project) I should have gone down a size for a slightly closer fit but it’s fine, next time I will. I added my own zipped pocket to the back but Melissa also includes options for a pocket, a hood (with pony-tail hole!) and how to add thumbholes to the long sleeved version. You can make short- or sleeveless options too so it’s a complete workout wardrobe with one pattern. Melissa has also tiled the pattern recently so now you only need to print off the size you want if you’re printing at home. The instructions and diagrams are excellent and really thorough, and there are sewing machine options if you don’t have an overlocker. It’s not for a complete jersey beginner but if you’ve made a few tees this is a great step up. I wrote a full review last summer with more images and advice on my blog susanyoungsewing.wordpress.com if you’re interested.
