Suggested fabrics:
Main: French terry, sweatshirt, or any medium weight knit material with a bit of stretch.
Contrast: Jersey, T-shirt material, lightweight french terry, rib knit, ponte roma, double knit. It’s also a great opportunity to stash bust and use up some bits left over from previous projects! You can use the same material as the main fabric, however the cuffs will have a closer fit.
Fabric requirements: 1.5 m (60") wide fabric: Main, 1.5 - 1.8 m (1.64 - 2 yd) // Contrast, 0.6 - 0.8 m (0.66 - 0.87 yd).
Sizing: UK 6 - 18. Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements. The high bust measurement should be used to get the best overall fit across your bust/shoulders.
Notions: 50 cm x 14 cm fusible interfacing; 3 buttons for the cowl (sample has 19 mm Prym covered buttons); 1 small button for the inner cowl (will not be seen and does not need to match the others - a good opportunity to use a spare dress shirt button!).
PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4 print-at-home pattern (25 pages); US letter print-at-home pattern (30 pages); A0 copy shop pattern (2 sheets). This pattern has the layers function to choose your size before printing.

Don't you just love cosy-ing up in a snuggly sweater at this time of year? I know I certainly do! I was looking for a jumper pattern that had a bit of a sporty feel to it and I came across the Casey Sweater by Experimental Space Patterns. I instantly loved the cowl neck detail and long angled cuffs. Along with the cuffs and cowl it also has two front welt style pockets. Although I really liked the finished look of these on the garment I was a little short of time with this make so I decided to omit these but instead add a kangaroo style pocket to the front so I still had some pocket satisfaction. I used the Tilly and the Buttons Stella Hoodie pattern piece which I think works a treat!
Experimental Space Patterns are sized by a name instead of a number which I really love so my size pretty much sits in with a 'Bea' (to give you an idea this is for a 33" high bust and I am a 32"). I made no alterations to the pattern pieces and decided to just go for it as there was enough ease in the final measurements that I could alter the garment at the end if it was wildly wrong. The instructions are great and are organised such that you sew all the slightly tricky bits first (the cowl and the welt pockets if you decide to do these). The cowl was very straightforward to assemble, and the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I altered the placement of the buttons ever so slightly from where they are recommended to suit where I wanted the cowl to sit. The pocket I attached using the welt pattern marks as a guide and I'm really happy with the overall look as it’s still in keeping with the style of the jumper - I think I'll have to try the welt pockets on the next version I make!

I made my first Casey top after seeing its creator, Andrea wearing it in person. I fell in love with all the unusual details and when I found these two inverse French Terrys, I knew they would be the perfect match. I loved picking out the details for the collar, cuffs and pockets in the contrasting fabric.
This isn’t a simple sweatshirt pattern, there are lots of challenging and intricate elements, so I wouldn’t recommend it to someone very new to sewing but it is a great skill builder.

This is a great sweatshirt with lots of little design details that make it a little bit different.
I love the cowl for extra warmth too!
