Buy the Komodo Triangle Dress sewing pattern from Alice & Co Patterns. The Komodo Triangle Dress is short and swingy, and so easy to make it can become addictive! The real joy of this pattern is that it only has one piece, and a mere three seams: it'll take you longer to choose the fabric than it will to sew it up! The dress is cut on the bias and fitted through the chest and shoulders, sloping gently out to a flattering fullness at the hem.

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

- PDF (available to download immediately after purchase). What is a PDF?

- PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you'll need to download the digital instructions, as we don't print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?

Note if purchasing copy shop printing: The single pattern piece is divided across two A0 sheets. The two sheets will need to be joined with no overlap.

Suggested fabrics: The simple shape is just crying out for some statement fabric - a bold print, a laser cut-out or a striking colour. Any weight of fabric will work to different effect: stiffer fabrics will emphasise the cone-like shape, whilst lighter weights will give you more swish.

Fabric requirements: You will need 140 cm (1 1/2 yd) square of fabric. This pattern is cut on the bias.

Sizing: UK 8 - 18. Please check the size chart.

Notions: 1 button and loop fastening.

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4 print-at-home pattern (24 pages); US letter print-at-home pattern (24 pages); A0 copy shop pattern (2 sheets). Note: You must print this pattern in colour.

Very Disappointing

The pattern description states:
"The real joy of this pattern is that it only has one piece, and a mere three seams"
What is fails to mention is that for all except the two smallest sizes, the pattern won't actually fit on the fabric.  What you're expected to do is cut a piece out of you fabric, sew it onto the main piece, then cut out the dress. I imagine that this alters the way it hangs (a sewing friend confirms that it will), and I can only assume that stripes and directional prints would be out of the question. As an absolute beginner (part of the reason I chose this 'simple' pattern) this all sounds a bit daunting. I absolutely would not have purchased this pattern if any of this had been mentioned in the description. I also have no idea how to cut out and attach a loop for the button fastening. Frankly, I might as well have thrown £17 in the bin as spent it on this pattern I'm never going to make.

Komodo Dress No 1

This is such a simple, clever and lovely pattern! I had rather lost my sew-jo recently, so I used it as a nice easy win, wardrobe staple, quick to sew project. It more than met my expectations! The instructions were clear, although I did properly finish the arm and neck holes, and the hem (the pattern suggests leaving them raw), because the fabric would have frayed. I used a light weight black and blue woven wool with a subtle check pattern woven in, which I bought at Woolcrest textiles in London. I loved this dress the moment I put it on, and I will be making more of them in future.
