The Trixie Briefs have a higher rise at the back and full bum coverage – they’re star jump proof and the ultimate in everyday comfort, all while being a quick and satisfying make. With classic or panelled options, you can make Trixie in your choice of a modern hipster brief or a 50s-inspired true high-waisted style (sitting above your belly button, at your natural waist).

The high-waist style is perfect for pairing with fit-and-flare dresses and high-waisted skirts and pants. As they sit at the true waist, they would also make the perfect 50s bikini bottom when made up in a swim lycra, as well as the perfect lounge pant paired with a cropped lacy dressing gown.

It’s time to get adventurous with those knit fabric scraps, mixing and matching to your heart’s content. Instructions are included for finishing with fold over elastic (FOE) as well as lingerie elastic, making for a total of 8 different variations all within one pattern.

Suggested fabrics: Stable knit fabrics with a good amount of stretch across the grain. A minimum of 30% stretch is recommended for best results. A fabric with 4-way stretch is the best choice for maximum comfort. Cotton/lycra (spandex/elastane) combinations work well for lightweight, breathable briefs, but other options include stretch lace/mesh, power mesh, etc. Trixie is also the perfect bikini bottom when made up in swim lycra. The Trixie Briefs were drafted using a 95% cotton 5% lycra spandex knit with a weight of 180 gsm. Use a breathable natural fabric like stretch cotton or bamboo for the gusset.

Fabric requirements: Extra may be required for pattern/print matching.

150 cm (60″) wide fabric: Hipster briefs (classic): 40 cm (0.44 yd) // Hipster briefs (panelled): Centre panels, 40 cm (0.44 yd) / Contrast side panels, 25 cm (0.28 yd) // High waist briefs (classic): 50 cm (0.55 yd) // High waist briefs (panelled): Centre panels, 50 cm (0.55 yd) / Contrast side panels, 35 cm (0.39 yd).

Gusset liner: 17 cm x 16 cm (6 1/2″ x 6 3/8″) piece of breathable stretch fabric.

Notions: 2 cm (3/4″) wide fold over elastic or 1 cm (3/8″) wide lingerie elastic, approx. 2.4 m (2.63 yd) for hipster briefs or 2.35 m (2.57 yd) for high waist briefs; ballpoint or stretch sewing machine needle; matching and/or contrast thread // Optional: Ribbon or other decorative item (button, diamante, charm, etc.) for the centre front waistband.
