Pietra Pants and Shorts

Closet Case Patterns

Buy the Pietra Pants and Shorts sewing pattern from Closet Case Patterns. Part of our Rome Collection, the Pietra Pants & Shorts are the best of both worlds; a flat front, high-waisted silhouette with the comfort of an elastic waist in the back. Featuring lengthening panels in the front with slanted hip pockets and a hidden waist stay, you’ll never want to take them off.

Choose between four leg styles: a wide leg in floor-skimming or cropped length (View A), a slim and tapered leg (View B), or gently flared shorts (View C).

Suggested fabrics: This pattern can be made with a variety of fabrics depending on the desired effect. For a more defined shape, use structured wovens such as linen, chambray, or lightweight denim or twill (heavyweight wovens may create too much volume at the elastic waist). For a swishy, glamorous look, use rayon challis, tencel, or silk.

4 out of 5 Great staple shorts

I used the fold line pattern database to find a simple shorts pattern for the summer and came across this pattern. I really liked the fact the shorts and trousers had elastic in the back waist and allowed for bloating and extra room after dinner! I found the construction simple and the instructions are really easy to follow. The pocket construction was interesting and I love how deep the pockets are! I found constructing the shorts the front and the back of the shorts didn’t match in length so I had to chop a lot off and in my second pair I ended up adding a huge chunk on to lengthen them as they do come up quite short! The waist is also very high so if you don’t like a high waist these might not be for you. I also found they came up quite big so I had to make the elastic quite short in the back for my first pair. They have a lot of ease when made up. Overall though super comfy and easy to make with huge pockets too! I made a size 8 and graded down to a 6 for my hips. I could probably have got away with making a size 6 (going off waist measurements – I have a 28 inch wait).

5 out of 5 Great pattern, good fit

Love the look of these, easy to fit back due to elastic. Came up a tiny bit larger than the measurements on the pattern. Enjoyed the process of making the pockets, thought the instructions were clear and by following carefully didn’t have any missteps. This was a wearable toile which I decided not to pattern match as thought I’d look like a sofa. Have worn them loads already. NB they do stick out quite a bit at the bottom if you wear a short top.
