My Capsule Wardrobe: City Break – ebook by Lisa Comfort

A shirt dress is such a casual, cool look; easy to wear, comfortable and stylish. The Alex Shirt Dress is no exception.

This is my first make from the Sew Over It – City Break ebook and I bought it in the Black Friday sale last year after wanting it for quite some time! I love all the patterns and will definitely have at least one of each in my wardrobe one day!

Today however, I’m talking about the Alex Shirt dress. You can make it as a simple shirt or shirt dress and in a wide variety of fabrics; cotton lawn, crepe, viscose, rayon or chambray! I chose this stunning cotton lawn from Sew Me Sunshine which is petrol navy blue and covered in flying swans. My mum got it for me for Christmas after I dropped numerous subtle hints! I just love it and think it’s the perfect fabric for this pattern.

As with most Sew Over It patterns I cut out a straight size 8, but knew I needed to shorten the length a little, I went for 4cm to start with and easily fitted all the pieces into 2 metres of fabric. I’ve probably got a little left over to make the tie belt at some point too!

The pattern I found very straightforward to assemble. The collar went in easily with this fabric and the placket was fine to make too – just required a bit of accuracy.
