Moneta dress

Colette

Moneta is your new go-to dress pattern. Built for both elegance and comfort, this simple knit dress works in every season and for any occasion.

Made with knit fabric, this dress can be created in a matter of hours. With minimal pressing and just a few pattern pieces, you’ll be whipping up an army of these wardrobe workhorses. Moneta is easy to make, and easy to wear. This dress is versatile, layerable, and above all, comfortable. Because Moneta feels as good as it looks, you will get a lot of wear out of these dresses.

All three styles of Moneta dresses have a gently curved, wide neckline, a fitted bodice, and a shirred skirt with in-seam pockets. Version 1 is a sleeveless dress with a lined bodice and narrow round collar that laps at the center back. Version 2 has an unlined bodice and short sleeves, while version 3 has an unlined bodice and 3/4-length sleeves.

I made this dress a couple of times in different sizes (was losing weight at the time, so my body shape was changing). It was fairly straightforward to make, except for inserting the clear elastic in the waistband. I looked up online and found helpful advice, but still struggled.
Both attempts were too wide on the neckline for me. I even tried cutting XS neckline (Bust M), but it was still too wide, so bra straps were visible. I hadn’t stabilised the neckline with tape ( beginner, so didn’t realise the importance of doing so) I used good quality viscose jersey which may have stretched out a bit. Perhaps a ponte type jersey would have been a better fit.
I wanted to love this dress because I seen plenty of positive reviews online. However, the visible bra strap issue rather spoiled this dress for me.

I used a 100% organic cotton interlock for this summery Moneta. It was actually my first Moneta and since then I have made 3 more.
My body shape is a pear and I chose size M based on my bust and waist measurements. My hips are a size bigger, but this wasn’t a problem with the flared skirt. I didn’t do any fitting alterations other then lengthen the skirt around 5 cm (2”). The instructions were great like with all Colette patterns and although I was a knit-newbie at the time, I had no troubles sewing the dress.
I would definitely recommend the Moneta dress to everyone! I think it’s flattering to a lot of body shapes, very comfy to wear and quite easy to sew 🙂
