Marigold jumpsuit and trousers

Another wonderful Tilly pattern. This is the first time that I have sewn this pattern and have done so as part of the #sewmystyle2018 Instagram challenge. Although I have worn trousers like this before in the past, I’m not a big trouser wearer and it just hasn’t crossed my mind to ever make any. So when this challenge came along I jumped at the chance to make the trouser version. I very rarely make trousers so knew that I would need to toile it. I used a crepe fabric with a similar weight to the viscose that I used for my final version here and was glad I did so as I realised that the crotch sat way too low on me. There is a brilliant tutorial on the Tilly website which takes you through any trouser adjustments that you might need to make and I simply raised the crotch (using the crotch adjustment lines on the pattern) by 2″. Don’t forget that you need to shorten the pocket pieces by the same amount too. The pockets are still nice and deep. I could have also shortened the length a little (despite the legs being shorter as a result of the crotch shortening), but I quite like the way they settle around my ankles and think this looks pretty with a drapey fabric like this so left them at the length they were. I was concerned that they might be too bulky around my waist with the gathered elastic all the way around and wondered if a flatter waistband at the front might be better for me, but the gathering is quite subtle and not enough to make me concerned about bulk around the waist. I was adamant that I didn’t want to make the jumpsuit version of the pattern originally, but I have since seen so many wonderful versions as part of the #sewmystyle2018 challenge that I am inspired to give it a go!
