Buy the 251 Unisex Varsity Jacket sewing pattern from Folkwear. This classic 1950s sport jacket was coveted by all fashion-conscious Americans. The traditional model featured a wool body with leather sleeves, but it looks amazing in sandwashed silk, corduroy, or print cotton. The pattern includes instructions for optional hand-knitted ribbing for cuffs, collar, and waistband. This is a great jacket that is still right on trend!

Suggested fabrics: Jacket: Medium to heavyweight fabrics such as wool, corduroy, gabardine, heavyweight cotton, suede or leather. Also summer weight fabrics such as rayon or washed silk. // Lining: Medium to heavyweight satin or lining blends. Select for compatibility with Jacket fabric. // Ribbing: Any ribbed knit with a good memory, or ribbing that is made specifically for this purpose. Instructions are included for knitting your own ribbing if desired.

Fabric requirements:

45″ (115 cm) wide fabric: Jacket with sleeves and welts, 1 7/8 – 2 1/2 yd (1.72 – 2.28 m) // Jacket without sleeves and welts, 1 3/8 – 1 5/8 yd (1.26 – 1.45 m) // Sleeves and welts, 1 – 1 1/8 yd (0.91- 1.03 m) // Lining, 1 7/8 – 2 yd (1.72 – 1.85 m).

60″ (150 cm) wide fabric: Jacket with sleeves and welts, 1 1/2 – 2 yd (1.37 – 1.85 m) // Jacket without sleeves and welts, 1 1/8 – 1 5/8 yd (1.03 – 1.45 m) // Sleeves and welts, 3/4 yd (69 cm) // Lining, 1 3/8 – 1 7/8 yd (1.26 – 1.72 m).

50″ – 60″ (137 cm – 150 cm) ribbing or knit fabric: 1/2 yd (45.8 cm).

Leather sleeves and welts: Approx. 1/4 skin cowhide leather / 1/2 side / 10 sq ft (0.93 sq m).

Sizing: XS – 2XL (approx. UK 6 – 26). Please check the size chart.

Notions: Thread; seven heavy-duty snap fasteners, plus attaching tool; 1 1/2″ (3.8 cm) wide elastic cut to Jacket waist measurement (optional).
