Haxby Skirt

Reviewed by Sarah Boddey on 24th February, 2020

This pattern is available on the Sew Over It Stitch School as one of the ‘Projects’ which I was able to test out as one of their Pattern Insiders.  It’s a classic godet skirt which I’d never made before but will definitely return to again and again as the finished result is so flattering and swishy!  The godets are essentially triangles of fabric, cut on the bias which you attach in between the straight panels just at the very point of the triangle and then let hang for 24 hours – do NOT miss out this step, in fact 48 hours is best if you can.  All my godets dropped by between 2-3 cms each!  You then sew them in place and then level up your hem.  Although the design in simple it is quite time consuming as every step has to be repeated 8 times!  I cut a size 14 and choose the mid-length hem.  The waist is finished with a simple paneled facing and an invisibly zip in the centre back.  You need to use a really drapey, swishy fabric for this: mine is viscose, crepe could also work well.   The instructional videos on the Stitch School are really good, everything is very clear and guides you through step by step.
