Geodesic – Blueprints for Sewing

When I first saw the pattern for the Geodesic shirt from Blueprints for Sewing I immediately fell in love. To make the shirt I used a Tencel fabric. Although it is suggested to use a knit fabric with at least 20% stretch it also worked very well with a non-stretch fabric. Instead of making this a long sleeve shirt I just shortened the sleeves, rolled the hems up and secured them with a couple of stitches by hand. However, because the overlocked seams didn’t look very nice I used some binding to hide them.

The shirt was fairly straight forward to sew and the instructions were good. I love the boxy and loose fitting shape of the shirt. Another tip is to make sure you carefully cut each pattern piece without moving the fabric. Precisely cut pattern pieces make it a lot easier to sew the shirt together (especially the middle section with the triangles and raglan sleeves). I look forward to making some more of these in the future.
