Fiona Sundress

Closet Case Patterns

In stock

Buy the Fiona sundress, which is fitted with button-up front, shoulder straps, princess seams, a straight cut skirt and fetching topstitched details. Wear it on its own during warm weather months, or layer it over tees and turtlenecks as the weather cools.

View A features a bra-friendly bodice and midi length skirt with side slits. View B features crossed straps and a low back, with a mini or below knee length skirt. All skirts and bodices are completely interchangeable so you can mix and match the Fiona of your dreams.

What we think: A lovely summer dress with on trend button up front and big pockets. Choose from two variations with different length skirts and straps. This dress would look perfect in a linen fabric for strolls on the beach and dinners out with friends.

Suggested fabrics: Medium weight wovens such as denim, twill, chambray, poplin, sateen and linen. Stretch wovens such as stretch sateen or stretch denim may also be used.

This sewing pattern is available in PAPER format.

5 out of 5 Fiona Sundress No Buttons Hack

I used some fantastic navy cotton corduroy for this make and instead of having buttons down the front, I decided to hack the pattern by removing them and have an exposed zip at the back. I made View A with the higher back and cut the length at around midi long – because I added a seam at the back I was able to make a vent in the back of the skirt. Read about how I altered the pattern on my blog:

5 out of 5 Striped open back Fiona sundress

I made my version in a linen/rayon blend for my holiday. It was very easy to sew and fit. The instructions are clear and I had a near perfect fit the first time, despite having to grade between three sizes. I really loved playing with the direction of the stripes. The only modifications were taking out a wedge of fabric in the back (my usual sway back adjustment) and shortening the straps. It is certainly a lot of buttonholes but it was worth it. I’m planning to make a short closed back version in something heavier for layering in cool weather.
