I initially was very intimidated about the thought of making this pattern even though it is labeled beginner and I have had very positive experiences with Seamwork patterns in the past. Once I started though I had a really fun time making it and was very impressed with the finished product.

One of the things I like best about Seamwork patterns is their very detailed fit notes, they really help to choose the right size off the start especially for beginners. They recommended making a muslin first as it can be difficult to pull over your head but I often don’t follow rules and decided to bypass the muslin stage and go right for it and I am very pleased with the fit other than I am a bit shocked of how short it turned out. I would not wear this out in public without wearing tights underneath and I am very short only 5’3. If I made it again I would likely add at least an inch likely 2” to the skirt.

I did struggle with a few of the steps, and some of the languages that they used I didn’t think were the best but ultimately I was able to figure out how to do everything other than the hand-stitching at the end where you stitch the lining and the skirt together. The step I struggled with was the burrito method to sew the sides of the lining together, but I took a sewing class recently and just did what the lady in the class taught me, but if I hadn’t taken that class I ultimately would likely still be crying over how to comprehend the steps.

Seamwork also provides 3 pattern hacks and a few other tips to customize your make even further and can up the fun level even more. I loved how they styled this pattern on the model she looks so FAB, and was a great inspiration for me to layer my dress over a black long sleeve which is also a Seamwork Pattern the Alice Top. They layered their dress over a turtle neck the Neenah Top and I think I may also make this as a top and fully copy the whole outfit.

I would for sure make this again and recommend it to others, it is by far one of my favourite pinafore patterns available.
