The Saraste shirt dress is the first of what I hope will be many patterns sewn from Breaking The Pattern. The drafting is excellent – I made a muslin but didn’t end up making any changes to it, as the fit was already fantastic. The only thing that bothered me was that the instructions felt a bit sparse, and you have to flip pages to other sections of the book for various steps. I understand this saves space/paper, but when I’m sewing I just want to be able to glance at the page not have to flip back and forth. I think someone who has little sewing experience might have trouble understanding the instructions, but as an experienced sewist I had no problems putting it together. The book overall is beautiful and if you haven’t bought it yet I honestly don’t know what you’re waiting for 🙂

5 out of 5 Solina Jumpsuit

I love this book! The patterns are beautifully designed, presented and drafted like all sewing patterns from Named. The photography is inspiring and the instructions are easy to understand and follow. There is a lot of additional information for beginner and in-depth explanations of key techniques which makes it a great reference book as well. The only trouble I had was in working out which pieces to trace off, because they are tightly packed together on the sheets of paper and the same pieces are used for multiple patterns but it is achievable (maybe save it for when you are not tired). I have made the Solina jumpsuit in a rayon from Tessuti Fabrics and it is one of my all-time favourite makes. I’m sure I will be living in it for the rest of the summer, it feels so comfortable and effortlessly glamorous. I definitely plan to make more projects from this book.
