Anna Dress – By Hand London

A review of By Hand London Anna Dress

I adore this dress. I don’t know why, but it took a while for this style to grow on me. After seeing lots and lots of gorgeous Annas all over the internet, I decided to bite the bullet and make one of my own.

I got this fabric from a closing-down fabric store near my parents’ house. I didn’t have a plan for it, but I liked it, so I gave it a home in my fabric stash.

The pattern is an easy make. I feel like I spent more time cutting and taping and cutting than I did actually sewing. The dress came together easily and flawlessly. With 4 pleats on the front, 2 darts on the back, and the shaping of the skirt, this dress fit perfectly without any alterations. The directions are only 5 pages, but aren’t lacking. And if the sketches aren’t enough, BHL has a sewalong that you can follow too.

I’m in love. I’ve already started another Anna, this one full-length, and have others planned. It comes together so easily and looks so great. I think this looks particularly great on pear-shaped ladies as it accentuates the waist, and has plenty of room for the hips!
