Aberdeen Top

I just finished my fourth Aberdeen top from Seamwork and I really love this pattern. Batwing shirts are so comfortable and easy to sew. The v-neck can be challenging but it’s well worth the effort for such a flattering neckline.

For my most recent make I used a really playful tie dye cotton jersey rib knit. I sewed the XL with only a minor adjustment at the back.

The second shirt is made from a vintage jersey that I’ve had for forever. I’m not sure what the fiber content is. I love it so much. The back side has another red stripe across the bum.

I read as many reviews for this pattern as I could find (not many) and they all suggested using the tutorial from the Renfrew t-shirt for attaching the neck band. Which is what I have done for all four makes. It’s been relatively simple as long as I have the tutorial on screen to guide me.

I usually cut out a triangle of fabric from the back seam. I lay the back seam together, fronts facing and position my clear ruler about 1″ in at the top grading down to the regular seam at the bottom. Basically, a long skinny triangle. I had some gaping there on my first one and that seemed to fix it.
