YOU MAKE LOVING FUN: DEER AND DOE MYOSOTIS DRESS

Reviewed by Gold&SilverStitches on 2nd March, 2021

The Deer & Doe Myosotis Dress is such a popular pattern and I am so glad I made a version! The dress is an oversized button-up dress with a gathered skirt, and there are optional flounce sleeves and an additional skirt tier. I made View A with the flounce sleeves and tiered skirt, so the finished garment is a very full, floaty, romantic silhouette! I’d recommended this pattern for a confident beginner, as the construction steps are pretty simple to follow and the only ‘tricky’ aspect are the buttonholes (and maybe the endless gathering…) ? This is my second time sewing up a Deer & Doe pattern and I found the instructions are very easy to follow.

I made the Myosotis dress from a Lady McElroy cotton lawn, with an abstract print of faces sketched in red on a watermelon background. This cotton lawn worked really well in holding the shape and the gathers in such a beautiful way — I think it has kept the fullness of the silhouette, despite not being one of the recommended fabrics. I also lined the bodice in white cotton lawn instead of making facings – you can see more photos and details on my blog!

I also hacked the Myosotis to have waist ties and to remove the Mandarin collar — I prefer a more open neckline and the waist ties give a slight cinched-in look. All in all, I would highly recommend the Myosotis dress — I am tickled pink with my finished garment and I am already planning on a version with plain short sleeves and a hacked midi length!
